Southern Mom Loves: Introducing the Convenient and Portable Lily Cup Compact

Introducing the Convenient and Portable Lily Cup Compact

Thursday, October 30, 2014

If you've been reading a while, you know how much I love my Lunette cup and am a huge proponent of menstrual cups in general. They are zero-waste, convenient, and eliminate the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome, which has killed too many women already. It's a shame more women don't know about menstrual cups, which have been around since the '30s, so I'm trying to change that. I'd love to introduce you to a brand-new cup just coming on the market that will make menstrual cups even more convenient.

Does Kickstarter’s First Menstrual Cup Success Signal the End to Pads and Tampons?
Stockholm/San Jose, October 30, 2014: Swedish brand Intimina today surpassed its Kickstarter target by over 1000%, showing women are demanding an alternative to pads and tampons by backing Lily Cup Compact, the world’s first collapsible menstrual cup.
  • A US woman will, in her lifetime, use and dispose of 12,000 pads or tampons
  • US menstrual product waste each year averages 270,000 tons: six times the weight of the Titanic.
  • Because it’s reusable, just one Lily Cup Compact can do the job of over 1625 pads or tampons.
Research has also shown that 9 out of 10 women who try a menstrual cup recommend it to a friend. So why are they not more widely known and available?

Sanitary product manufacturers make huge profits from the guaranteed monthly repurchase of their disposable products, funding massive advertising campaigns that menstrual cup companies struggle to compete against.

Intimina, the feminine care brand, is challenging the daily norm and striving to ensure women around the world have a healthier, eco-friendly, and economical option when choosing their period protection. Their aim is to bring menstrual cups into the mainstream by launching a cup with mass market appeal on Kickstarter.

Lily Cup Compact is the first collapsible menstrual cup ever created, and solves both the environmental and health aspects of period care while also introducing a new level of convenience. Made of medical-grade silicone, it collects menstrual flow rather than absorbing it and can be worn for up to 10 hours, then rinsed and reinserted.

Its unique design can fold flat and fit into a small protective case no bigger than a tin of lip balm. This is perfect for carrying around in a bag or pocket, so an unexpected period never has to be an emergency again.

Intimina’s Global Brand Manager, Amandine Pranlas-Descours said “Women, as well as a significant amount of men, from around the world have voiced incredible support for the campaign, and ultimately for a better solution to period protection. Thanks to the help of Kickstarter, Lily Cup Compact will become a reality, and the awareness raised means more and more women are finally discovering that they can say goodbye to pads and tampons forever.”

The campaign will continue running until November 23. Over 2,000 people have already pledged their support for the campaign, which has now soared past its initial $7,800 goal to raise over $85,000. Backers can pledge exclusively on the Kickstarter project page and each pledge moves Lily Cup Compact further ahead of pads and tampons.
