Shopping for kids is my favorite part of the holidays. I love shopping and choosing gifts in general, but when you're shopping for kids, it's so much more fun. It's a great excuse to go and browse the toy section, play around, and pick out a gift that will absolutely make someone's day. There is no better feeling than putting a smile on a child's face.

I got some great gifts as a child. Gifts that I played with for years and years. Some that come to mind are the Barbie Ice Cream Shop (anyone remember that?!), a Sit N' Spin, a real keyboard that I drove my family crazy with, and a set of My Little Ponies with their carrying case. Those were awesome gifts, and sometimes expensive for our family, but I think my favorite toys of ever were probably the least expensive.

One year when I was probably 2 or 3, my dad brought me a set of wind-up Smurfs. I was so excited! I absolutely adored the Smurfs cartoon, and while they were not fancy toys, I loved them so much, I carried them around with me everywhere!

That just reminds me when I'm shopping for kids that it's not the price tag that matters. Kid's toys can be expensive, and it's tempting to just run in, grab a big-ticket item, and call it done, but just putting a little thought into it can make all of the difference in the world to a child.

Walmart is pleased to present Holiday Toyland, a series of in-store events held all through November and December.

You can interact with the year's hottest toys, chosen by kids, and become an official "Toy Tester"! It'll be a great way to see what's new, what's hot, and what kids of all ages are into. I'll be attending with my children on November 8th. Find an event near you here and take the difficulty out of choosing the best gift for the kids in your life!

What was your favorite childhood gift? Will you be attending a Walmart Toyland Event?
