Southern Mom Loves: Activz is a Great Way to Sneak in Whole Food Nutrition {Review}

Activz is a Great Way to Sneak in Whole Food Nutrition {Review}

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

I received a tub of Complete shake in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I'm always looking for ways to sneak extra nutrition into my family's diet, and it's not always easy. I've run the gamut from fruit & veg chocolate milk to green shakes, and I always get complaints about the taste. Sigh.

When I got the chance to try the Complete shake from Activz, I thought "Well, I guess I'll try again." I mean, they're always game, it's just never really been successful. Activz has partnered with Montel Williams to promote the “Stealth Health Revolution”, so let's just see how stealthy their nutritional products are...

About Activz
Activz’s new, preservative-free whole-food powder line retains all the nutrition of fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to its patented dehydration process – a method which evaporates only the water molecules while leaving vital nutrients intact. This convenient powder, available in a variety of fruit, vegetable and grass powders, enables you to improve your diet by quickly increasing the nutritional value of any meal.
“Activz will revolutionize the way the world eats,” said Montel Williams. “People no longer have to choose between eating healthy and having a convenient, hassle-free diet. Activz has greatly simplified the whole-foods lifestyle.”

Browsing their products page , I saw so many that I would love to try; from powders that you can sprinkle into dinner, or make vinaigrettes and sauces from, to delicious-sounding shakes, and easy to swallow pills.

Their powders are dehydrated from primarily organic fruit, vegetables, and grasses, grown in nutrient-rich soil free from harmful pesticides. Their process is better than freeze-dried in that it retains more of the nutrients. It's also shelf-stable and retains it's full potency for years, so these would be great in emergency kits, which is something I think about being in an area where we have a long tornado season.

I chose the Complete shake mix in Vanilla Berry flavor to try. I figured this would be the easiest to get my family to swallow. Maybe if I just call it a Vanilla Berry Shake?

You can use the Complete shake mix in a variety of liquids, or add it into your normal morning shake for a boost of nutrition. I thought I would start by mixing it with milk. I mean, Vanilla Berry sounds like a great creamy drink, right? So I followed the directions to add one scoopful to 10 fl.oz. of liquid, mixed it in my trusty shaker bottle and it was finished. Easy-peasy. The big test was coming up...

First I gave it to my son, who is notoriously picky. He didn't used to be, but it seems like turning into a teenager means learning life secrets like: Nutritious=Bad tasting. So, I asked him if he wanted one of these new Vanilla Berry shakes that I was trying out. Because I also know that he learned: Massive amounts of food=Good. So I gave him one to try and he actually liked it! I'm not saying a word.

Next was my daughter, who is 7, and is pretty easy-going about new foods. She drank a whole glass of this by herself and told me it was pretty good. Two down, one to go.

Husband is the most picky of all the children. ;) He likes staying healthy and eating nutritious foods...but only if they taste good. Read: Not really that nutritious. I talked him into doing a week cleanse once, and he lasted a full day. I started drinking green shakes, so he tried them...for a little while. I needed something that tastes good to him, that he could stick with, and not feel deprived drinking. This isn't a meal-replacement, just a +1, so I had high hopes. The result: He likes it! But wishes they carried strawberry flavor. Womp. Well, as long as he'll drink it, I'm a happy camper.

You can find Activz products and more information about the "Stealth Health Revolution" on their website. Activz is also active (see what I did there?) on Social Media, stop by and say "hello"!

What is the stealthiest way you've tried to add nutrition into your family's diet? Were you successful?
