Attending Holiday Parties? Get Your Teeth Their Brightest! {Smile Brilliant Review}

I received a Tray Creation Kit from Smile Brilliant in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Attending Holiday Parties? Get Your Teeth Their Brightest! {Smile Brilliant Review}

How white is your smile? I thought mine was pretty okay. I mean, I drink coffee all day, but I use a whitening toothpaste, so it can't be that bad, right? Well, whitening toothpastes don't remove all of the food and drink stains that happen over the day, and over time, your teeth can become a dull grey or yellow without you even noticing. It's been about a year since I had any kind of whitening treatments and mine had a little of both going on.

Smile Brilliant generously offered to let me review one of their kits, and I couldn't wait to try it out. I've used whitening products of all kinds, from drugstores to the dentist, so I was curious to see how this one would work.

I received my kit in the mail quickly and it contained everything I needed to create my custom dental trays, and it also included three whitening gel syringes, and three desensitizing gel syringes. I wasn't sure if I would need these, but it was nice to know that they were an option if I did. I had a sensitivity to a Dentist's peroxide treatment once, and it was painful.

The kit comes with three sets of Catalyst and Base pastes, which you mix together to fill the included trays in order to make your impressions. It's nice that they included an extra just in case! Full, illustrated instructions that were clear and easy to follow, and a postage paid envelope to mail your impressions back were also included.

I was nervous about making my trays, but it was pretty easy. Just mix the Base and Catalyst pastes for the indicated amount of time, until it's a solid blue, push that into one of the trays, position the tray in your mouth and push down firmly, let set for 2 1/2 minutes without wiggling or biting down, and lift straight up. Repeat for your second set. If you didn't get a good impression or it was off-center, just use your extra pastes to try again. Let them sit out for 30 minutes to harden and rinse under cold water. Ship them off with your filled-out Return Card and wait for your finished trays to arrive!

In the meantime I took some "before' photos.

Not terrible, right? ...right?

My trays took about 5 days to come back and I had a little surprise in my package: They sent my molds back to me! They said they don't usually send the molds taken from your impressions, but since I was blogging about it, they thought I might be interested to see that these are the same molds a dentist would make. Mine were broken a bit, but I glued them back together as best I could. Why? Because they're cool! I named mine "Skeletor Mommy."

[Sidenote: I may have used them to chase the kids around the house to get kisses for Skeletor Mommy. That's what happens when you put learning materials in my hands people. There's a reason I don't homeschool.]

My custom-fitted trays came and they were perfect. They even came with a case. Handy. I couldn't wait to get started!

You start by using the syringe to apply a thin line to the inside-fronts of your trays. In the pic above, I applied my line a bit too thick and the gel squeezed out of the top. These trays fit so closely that you really don't need that much. By the second application I got better and one syringe lasted for 5 treatments. With 3 syringes included, this kit will last you through at least two complete sets of treatments!

I wore my first couple of trays for 3 hours each time. You don't have to wear them that long, but I wanted fast results. I wore them for about an hour and a half for the last 3-4 applications. They're totally clear, so I just went about my day and no one knew that I was wearing them. I did a total of 7 treatments, and here is my "after."

I noticed that my teeth were whiter after the first treatment, and after seven treatments, they are so much brighter than I thought possible.

I did a side-by-side so that you can really see the difference. I did not digitally "brighten" my teeth in any way. These photos are from two different cameras (my blogging camera died! Oh nos!) so I tried to get the color/brightness of both pictures as close to each other as I could. I think I did pretty good with the matching. Also, I should mention that staring at nothing but photos of your own mouth for hours is a weird experience.

I would definitely recommend Smile Brilliant. Their kits are Dentist-grade at a fraction of the cost of a Dentist's whitening, and come with enough product to make it completely worth it!

You can find Smile Brilliant's products on their website. They're also active on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, & Google+.

Smile Brilliant has generously offered to give one of my readers their very own kit so they can see a brighter smile this holiday season! Look for that post coming soon!
