Winter Is Coming...Are Your Kids Ready? Kamik Snowgypsy Boots ReviewSaturday, December 6, 2014
I received a pair of Snowgypsy boots from Kamik in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Winter in the South? Yes, it's possible. We usually get some snowfall at least once a year, with deep snow maybe every five years. It buried us five years ago, so it seems like this might be our year.
You Northerners may laugh when you see us all bundled up against the cold when you're still wearing shorts while you shovel snow. You go on and laugh. I've been up North; You guys may get more of the white stuff, but it's usually dry, and the cold's not that bad. Here in the South, when it snows, it's a damp, icy nightmare. Oh no! Did you get a little of that dry, fluffy powder in your boots? I've got what feels like a large Cherry Slushee in mine.
So yes, we Southerners prepare for the cold like we're preparing for the apocalypse.
When I was offered a pair of Kamik's snow boots to review, we couldn't wait to try them out.

I chose the Black because, hey, versatile. I also loved the white, but if my daughter had seen that they came in pink, it would have been all over. No matter what she would have us believe, there is such a thing as too much pink.
The boots are sturdy, but not heavy. That's important when choosing kid's boots, especially young kids. It will trip them up more often than not.
The upper part of the boot is a waterproof nylon while the bottom part of the boots are made from RubberHe, which the site tells me is "Strong like iron, yet light like helium, RubberHe is Kamik’s own lightweight innovation. This recyclable, PVC-free synthetic rubber is 50% lighter than natural rubber and 30% lighter than other synthetic rubbers. And it’s flexible, extremely durable and protective, offering two times more abrasion-resistance than PVC rubber."
I really have to mention the treads; They're deep, crosshatched for extra traction, and the rubber is...kind of grippy? I don't think that's even a proper word, but I'm using it. It's flexible...and grippy.
Note: The dictionary says "grippy" is actually a word. Welp, there go my dreams of fame and fortune.
It has Kamik's Easy Grab Lace Lock, which is "made to block snow and cold from getting in while at the same time making sure body heat doesn’t escape, our patented* bungee technology is one more way our boots provide protection and warmth. And it’s easy to use - even a child in mittens can securely tighten it without having to tie the cord." Fantastic. I love that I can tighten these. Most girl's boots have a zip or are pull-ons. We've never had a pair that I could tighten to help keep the wet socks to a minimum.
The cutest feature of this boot (according to my daughter) is the "fur", which is actually a faux fur that just rims the top, which is typical in those fashionable fur-collared boots. What is atypical about the lining of these is that there is a super-soft fleece lining (and I mean luxuriously soft; It feels like petting a kitten) that goes from the faux fur all the way down the inside of the boot.
The fit was spot-on, they were comfortable, warm, and my daughter loved them. All the things I look for in a Winter boot. ;)
|She says she's posing like a "fashion girl." I think I'm in trouble.|
