Southern Mom Loves: Kids Night In Subscription Box - September Unboxing

Kids Night In Subscription Box - September Unboxing

Thursday, September 20, 2018

I received a free Kids Night In box from Night In Boxes to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

I have another great unboxing for you guys. This one is a subscription box for the family called Kids Night In. They send out a themed box every month containing a book, activities, snacks, and recipes to prepare together, along with a custom Spotify playlist for your fun night! September's theme is 'Common Bonds', all about the things that your child has in common with other children around the world. I'm unboxing this one with my daughter; Keep reading to see what's inside and enter to win one for yourself! [CLOSED]

I may have gone a little subscription box crazy these last couple of weeks as I have a few more of them on the way to show you guys. The first to arrive was the Kids Night In box. Before it arrived I got a shipping notification and was able to sign in to my account to see the theme for the month with recipes and even get a printable Shopping List.

This Starter recipe for this month is Friendship Mix, which makes plenty to share with friends and family.

The entree is Minestrone Friendship Soup. I think I'm detecting a theme here. ;)

The soup recipe makes plenty for the whole family + some friends and sounds delish. We had to wait to make this one because our AC is out right now and while I love a big, steaming bowl of soup, this heat is killing me. I've picked up the ingredients though and am excited about making it with Emma this weekend!

Another fun addition to the box is a custom playlist via Spotify. If you don't have a Spotify account, it's free to sign up. Just follow the playlist link for your box and you'll have some fun kid-friendly tunes to crank up while you guys are all making dinner.

I actually waited to open the box until Emma got home from school (the suspense!), so she is actually unboxing it for you and I just took the pictures. :)

The first item out of the box was a large newspaper all about the box's theme that tells you what's inside, gives you your recipes, has a discussion guide for the included book, tells you about all of the items and activities included in the box, and has some additional activity ideas to help keep the fun going.

Next out of the box is the book for this month, Whoever You Are by Mem Fox, Illustrated by Leslie Staub.

It's an easy reader, so new readers will be able to sound out the words in it and older kids will love it as well. It's got a wonderful message and is gorgeously illustrated.

Next, we pulled out...a globe ball!

Emma blew it up immediately and we found where we lived and the different places where our family lives. There are a few more activities listed in the magazine and when you're done, it's a cool toy!

Spoilers, but I'm going to tell you Emma's favorite thing about the box before we're even done. It's the Pen Pal letter! It comes with a fill-in-the-blanks-style letter and a pencil and crayons. When your child is done decorating it, they place it in an envelope addressed to Kids Night In and stick it in the mail. KNI has a safe and secure Pen Pal Community and they'll forward your child's letter to another child in the community. So cool!

We also received a snack in the box: 2 snack bars from This Bar Saves Lives! It's a great initiative that gives food aid around the world for every bar that you buy. There are also exclusive printable coupons for Night In Box members if you'd like to continue to support the cause by buying them at your local grocery store.

The bars were chocolate chip and were super-yummy. They're non-GMO certified and Gluten Free with added vitamins and minerals for a nutritious snack that doesn't taste like cardboard. :)

Last out of the box were 2 sweet figurines and game cards for the game board included in the magazine. I wonder if there are figures from all around the world? These are the two we received:

The game is very much in the style of Candyland, so it'll be easy for kids to pick up and play. The first player or team that travels all around the world wins!

All-in-all it was a fun box to receive and my daughter loved getting a whole family night of activities in the mail.

Night In Boxes also makes a Date Night In box for fun date ideas with your partner and a version of both of the Date and Kids boxes that includes a faith-based discussion guide. They're a lot of fun whether you need some fun time with your little ones or time to reconnect with your partner.

The box cost depends on whether you're doing month-to-month or getting a subscription for 3, 6, or 12 months in advance. There's a bit of a discount for each bump up and shipping is included.

The prices as of right now are:
1 month = $41.99 per box
3 months = $120 ($40 per box)
6 months = $239 (roughly $39.83 per box)
12 months = $464 (roughly $36.67 per box)

Not bad for an entire night of fun! Check out Night In Boxes here to see the different box types and take a peek inside of some past boxes, too.
