Hi, y'all, I'm back with an unboxing for the IndieStitch Box for December 2024! This month, we'll be making a sweatshirt with regular or cropped lengths and color-blocking options that will be perfect to cozy up in all winter. I also have an exclusive discount code just for my readers and a spoiler for the January pattern. Let's unbox it!
About IndieStitch
IndieStitch is a monthly subscription box for home sewists that provides you with everything you need to complete a beginner-friendly clothing project.
Sit back, sew, and savor the joy of making. We handle the sourcing so you can focus on the stitching. Expertly curated women’s clothing projects, premium fabrics, and community support—all in one box.
That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.
Subscription Options
As you can see above, there are 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans and the cost per box goes down with the longer plans. This year we get a new option to pre-pay for the plans for an added discount!
Plus, you can use the code SOUTHERNMOM50 to get 50% off your first box on the 6 and 12-month plans! That's a HUGE savings!
How Does It Work?
- When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month. The size ranges are incredibly inclusive!
- Once subscribed, you'll receive an email at the end of the month (usually around the 28th) to choose the fabric for the next month's pattern.
- Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
- You can choose to sew it up on your own using the pattern instructions, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, and/or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
- If on a monthly plan, your membership will renew for the next month between the 13th - 15th.
- The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)
- If you don't like the pattern for the month (or maybe you already own it), you can switch it with a past project you didn't get or swap the pattern out for extra fabric or notions. That way, you'll always get something you'll love to sew!
There is also an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past project boxes, fabrics, and sewing notions.
If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.
Monthly Free Gift!
If you complete the current month's project and post it to the IndieStitch Sew Along Facebook group before the end of the month, you will earn a free gift in your next box! Following along and seeing everyone's projects in the group is a great part of the box experience and getting a little gift in your next box is so sweet.
December 2024 Pattern
The pattern we're making this month is the Ali Sweatshirt from Sew DIY Patterns!
An oversized sweatshirt with drop-shoulders, dolman sleeves, a shoulder yoke, and two-piece sleeves with optional topstitching. View A features a crew neck, a straight body for a gender-neutral silhouette, and an optional kangaroo pocket. View B is cropped with a scoop neck that narrows to the high hip for a more feminine style. The kangaroo pocket can also be used with View B.
This casual and sporty style is easy to sew and fun to wear. Wear it to the gym, to the beach or anywhere you need an extra layer of warmth. The roomy fit pairs well with jeans and leggings for everyday stylish comfort.
December 2024 Fabric Choices
This month we have 6 different color-blocking options and 1 solid option to choose from:

- Black/Stripe Baby French Terry - 69% Rayon, 27% Polyester, 4% Spandex (Stripe is 90% Polyester 7% Rayon 3% Spandex)

IndieStitch December 2024 Unboxing
The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that states all of the pertinent information, including a code to download the instructions and a digital version of the pattern for free (you will get the printed pattern in your box.)
It also gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you to the sewing hub for video tutorials. The flip side details all of the items in your box.
I like that they included enough of each color so that we can choose which one will be the most dominant in our color-blocking. The download from the pattern company also includes a worksheet for each style so that you can color in the line drawing and see what your finished color-blocking might look like. Very cool option!
Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. We have a spool of matching Gütermann thread and two ballpoint needles for knits in the correct size for our fabric.
Next out is our printed pattern, the Ali Sweatshirt from Sew DIY Patterns! It's printed on thick copy shop paper so it's extra durable.
Next out is our 1st extra, a Metal Sewing Gauge. I've been needing a new one for a while now (the metal spring piece inside the plastic slider fell out so it moves too freely). This one is much nicer than the antique one I had. It has holes so it can be used like a compass to draw arcs, easy spacers for buttons or pleats, and it's aluminum so you can use it to measure when ironing up hems.
Next is our 2nd extra, a pair of pink Snips. I have a few pairs of snips in my sewing room (one at the machine and one on the cutting table) but these can come in handy anywhere. This pair has a cover for the blades so they would be perfect to travel with.
Last is our 3rd extra, some Annie B's Chocolate Caramels. I love it when we receive a little snack to have while sewing. I don't usually purchase candy for myself so finding a sweet treat in the box is a nice touch!
____________________________
That was the IndieStitch December 2024 box. I wasn't that hyped about a sweatshirt pattern until I saw the colorblocking options and Indiestitch went all-in with the color-blocking fabrics! It was so hard choosing a set of colors but I'm very happy with how super-soft the baby french terry is. The extra sewing notions will come in handy and those small-batch caramels are dreamy! Great box!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
So far we know that January's pattern will be the Smitten Jacket from Pattern Emporium!
The Smitten Cropped Jacket sewing pattern is a fabulous mix of traditional & trend design. Designed for woven fabrics with a nod towards the classic denim jean jacket, it features a cropped hemline, full sleeve with wide gathered cuff worn loosely at the wrist & a gently elasticated hem band. For a more traditional look, we’ve also included a plain hem band & shirt-style sleeve with button-up cuff.
