I'm Getting Health + Ancestry DNA Testing! {Nebula Genomics Review + a Coupon Code}

I received a DNA Kit from Nebula Genomics in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own. This post may contain some affiliate links.

Hi, guys! I have always wanted to try genetic testing both for health reasons and to find out my ancestry once and for all. All of the companies I found were either one or the other and pretty pricey at that. Nebula Genomics provides both ancestry and health traits and they decode 100% of your DNA (not .02% like other companies.) Another plus is their privacy policy that gives you full ownership and control over your genomic data. I just received my kit so I'll walk you through it + I have a Discount Code for you!

About Nebula Genomics

"Nebula Genomics’ mission is to usher in the era of personal genomics by providing access to affordable and secure Whole Genome Sequencing. This is made possible by the contributions of Prof. George Church to the development of multiple DNA sequencing methods.

In particular, molecular multiplexing approaches that enabled next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS) as well as long-read nanopore sequencing. Today, Nebula Genomics is turning these breakthrough technologies into products and making them available to people around the globe.

At Nebula Genomics we are driving large-scale human genome sequencing to advance our understanding of the causes of diseases and lay the foundation for personalized therapies of the future. These include targeted gene therapies that will make it possible to cure genetic diseases.

In addition to developing DNA sequencing technologies, the laboratory of Prof. George Church has also made major contributions to the development of tools for gene editing. In particular, it co-invented CRISPR-Cas9, a revolutionary gene-editing tool that brought us much closer to creating gene therapies."

Ordering

When ordering, there are 3 options: There are the two Nebula Genomics 100% DNA decoding plans, Deep and Ultra Deep. There is also an option for the basic Standard DNA decoding. Right now there is a 70% off Summer Sale going on, so those are the prices you'll see in the below image.

If you scroll down from the plans, there's a chart that compares all 3 products in depth. I chose the Deep option.

What's in the Kit?

The kit arrived pretty fast. It took less than a week but I'm sure that depends on the postal service in your area.

First, you have to find the code on your kit and register it to your account. This will take you to a Dashboard that tracks all of the steps. Once you ship it back you'll be able to see where your kit is in the process. They also have some surveys you can fill out to help get a better look at your health and wellness levels.

Everything comes in a small box and the instruction sheet is very clear and easy to understand. They make sure to let you know that you must register your kit first. There are steps you must take to prepare yourself for taking a sample and those are clear as well. No drinking, eating, or smoking 30 minutes before taking your samples!

The kit comes with everything you'll need to take and ship your DNA sample back, including a pre-paid envelope.

How to Collect Your DNA

Once you're ready to collect the sample, open the swab packet. Then open the collection tube and place it on a flat surface.

Rub one of the swabs all over the inside of your cheeks for around 60 seconds.

Screw the swab tip down into the collection tube and rapidly move it up and down in the fluid around 30 times. Pull the swab out and repeat the collection process with the 2nd swab.

Screw the top on the collection tube securely and seal it in the specimen bag.

Place the specimen bag with your DNA sample in the provided mailer and seal.

Drop it off at the nearest USPS location and it will make its way back to the Nebula Genomics lab for testing.

That's it! It was pretty darn easy getting my sample ready and shipped off. The site says it will take around 12 weeks to complete the testing, so I'll let you know how long mine took and what my results were in a few months!
