Hi, y'all! I'm back with the unboxing for the IndieStitch Box for September 2024! IndieStitch is a monthly subscription box for sewing enthusiasts that provides you with everything you need to complete a beginner-friendly clothing project, plus a few fun extras. This month, we'll be making a Bomber jacket that you'll want to wear all season long! I also have an exclusive discount code and a spoiler for the October pattern. Let's unbox it!
About IndieStitch
Sit back, sew, and savor the joy of making. We handle the sourcing so you can focus on the stitching. Expertly curated women’s clothing projects, premium fabrics, and community support—all in one box.
That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.
It's also a fantastic box for sewing beginners who want to jump into making their own clothing. All of the projects offered in the boxes are for a "confident beginner" so even if you're fairly new to sewing, you can complete these projects.
IndieStitch does a step-by-step Sew Along for each pattern that is uploaded to the Membership Hub every month. In addition to that, the Facebook group sew-along is another way to learn, share, and ask questions; It's a lovely little community!
Even if you're a beginning beginner, these kits are 100% doable.
Subscription Options
As you can see above, there are 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans and the cost per box goes down with the longer plans. This year we get a new option to pre-pay for the plans for an added discount!
Plus, you can use the code SOUTHERNMOM50 to get 50% off your first box on the 6 and 12-month plans! That's a HUGE savings!
How Does It Work?
- When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month. The size ranges are incredibly inclusive!
- Once subscribed, you'll receive an email at the end of the month (usually around the 28th) to choose the fabric for the next month's pattern.
- Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
- You can choose to sew it up on your own using the pattern instructions, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, and/or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
- If on a monthly plan, your membership will renew for the next month between the 13th - 15th.
- The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)
- If you don't like the pattern for the month (or maybe you already own it), you can switch it with a past project you didn't get or swap the pattern out for extra fabric or notions. That way, you'll always get something you'll love to sew!
There is also an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past project boxes, fabrics, and sewing notions.
If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.
Monthly Free Gift!
If you complete the current month's project and post it to the IndieStitch Sew Along Facebook group before the end of the month, you will earn a free gift in your next box! Following along and seeing everyone's projects in the group is a great part of the box experience and getting a little gift in your next box is so sweet.
September 2024 Pattern
The pattern we're making this month is the Midway Bomber Jacket from Green Style!
There is something special about the Midway Bomber Jacket. Is it the look of the beautiful fabrics in contrast with the sporty silhouette? Or is it the on-trend look and unique detailing? Either way, there is nothing we don't love about this jacket. You have so many ways you can pull together a statement jacket that stands out in a crowd. There are several options and many different looks you can get out of this one pattern!
I am so stoked to make this bomber jacket! I love the versions I've seen using a large-scale floral print, stripes, and mixed solids.
September 2024 Fabric Choices
This month we have 7 fabrics to choose from!
• Pink Stripe Ottoman: 96.5 Polyester, 3.5% Spandex
• Olive Stripe Ottoman: 96.5 Polyester, 3.5% Spandex
• Pink Micro Velour: 96% Polyester 4% Spandex
• Camel Stretch Suede: 95% Polyester 5% Spandex
• Ivory Plaid Jacquard: 84% Poly, 13% Rayon, 3% Spandex
• Black/Red Floral Techno: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex
• Denim/Black Houndstooth: 97% Polyester, 3% Spandex
We got a sneak peek at all of the fabrics in the Facebook Group for this month and I loved that they showed us what it might look like made up in the fabric. As always, I'll show you the fabric that I chose below!
IndieStitch September 2024 Unboxing
The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that includes all of the pertinent information for the month, including a code to download the instructions and a digital version of the pattern for free (you will get a printed version of the pattern in your box.) It also gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you to the sewing hub for that month. The flip side details all of the items in your box.
There were some great fabrics to choose from but as soon as I saw this beautiful camel-colored faux stretch suede I knew this was the one. It will give the bomber an upscale look that can be worn a lot of different ways and the color screams Fall.
We also received a 2nd fabric in our boxes for this month's pattern: a long length of rib knit for the collars, cuffs, and hem.
Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. We have a spool of matching Gütermann thread, two of the correct type and weight of sewing machine needles for our fabric, 2 small lengths of interfacing for the pockets and zipper, a separating zipper, and 2 zipper stops for shortening the zipper.
Next out is our printed pattern, the Midway Bomber Jacket from Green Style. It's printed on thick copy shop paper so the pattern will last through many uses.
Next out is our 1st extra, a Telescopic Microfiber Duster. I actually have a bigger one for the house and they're really cool! The duster head is washable and the telescoping handle makes sure you can reach anything you need to. I hadn't thought to keep one just for the sewing room but it's a good idea!
Last is our 2nd extra, a bundle of Bobbin Clips and Holders. These will always come in handy to keep bobbins from unwinding and keeping them clipped to their matching thread spool.
That was the IndieStitch September 2024 box. This project is going to be challenging, but fun, and I can't wait to see the finished jacket! I loved the fabric options, and we got some nice box extras, too.
I love getting these boxes every month with a cool new clothing project and handy sewing notions, straight to my door. It's always a fun surprise to see what the extras are and they're always good.
I absolutely love that they include everything you might need to just get down to sewing, including the correct fabric type, thread, and needles for your machine. We also get a cool, indie pattern. This box is a treasure for home sewists!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
So far we know that October's pattern will be the Swan Wrap Sweater from Boo and Lu Patterns!
Swan is an elegant ballet style wrap sweater, drafted for knit fabrics. Perfect for layering over strappy and sleeveless dresses and tops in cooler weather, or simply to provide more coverage, Swan is a lovely and versatile wardrobe staple. This delicate sweater features two bodice options. The simple bodice gives a clean and timeless aesthetic, or add a touch of modern drama with an asymmetrical bodice that can be worn two ways.
Swan has four sleeve length options: short, 3/4, long, and trumpet. Adult Swan also features two length options- the top falls between the waist and hip, and the crop falls at the waist. With options to keep it classic or give a captivating twist to this graceful piece, Swan will be the perfect choice for everyday wear or special occasions.
