I received a complimentary box from IndieStitch in order to facilitate an unboxing post. All opinions are my own. This post may contain some affiliate links.

Hi, y'all, I'm back with an unboxing of the IndieStitch Box, a monthly apparel sewing subscription, for May 2026! This month, we'll be sewing up a versatile summer tank top with both solid and color-blocking options. I'll show you everything that came in this month's box + I have the current promotion and a spoiler for the June pattern. Let's unbox it!

About IndieStitch

IndieStitch is a monthly subscription box for home sewists that provides you with everything you need to complete a beginner-friendly clothing project and learn some new techniques!

Sit back, sew, and savor the joy of making. We handle the sourcing so you can focus on the stitching. Expertly curated women’s clothing projects, premium fabrics, and community support—all in one box.

That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.

Subscription Options

The subscription is month-to-month, $86 per box. Once subscribed, you will get the option to pre-pay for 6 additional months for $430. That will bring the per-box price down to $71.67, so it's a great way to get a discount! If you don't see the offer pop up, check for the upgrade option in your account.

There is also an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past project boxes, fabrics, and sewing notions.

If you'd like to see some past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.

Monthly Free Gift!

If you complete the current month's project and post it to the IndieStitch Community Sew Along Facebook group before the end of the month, you will earn a free gift in your next box! Following along and seeing everyone's projects is a great part of the box experience, and getting a little gift in your next box is so sweet!

May 2026 Pattern

The piece we're making this month is the Paloma Tank Top from Sinclair Patterns.

Fitted at the shoulders and bust, semi-fitted at the waist and hips, wide neckline, top designed for knit fabrics. Neckline and armholes finished with bands. Armhole bands offered in one regular / narrow continuous band design or a split design.  Bottom hem can be finished with a regular hem or with a fitted band. Comes in banded or hemmed hip or longline lengths.

View B - a hemmed tank top with split armhole bands
View C - a banded tank top with split armhole bands

I think I'll be making the longline tank with continuous arm bands.

Inside the box, the card on top lists all of the information you need for the month's project, including a code to download the instructions + a digital version of the pattern for free (you will get the printed pattern in your box).

It also gives you this month's Community Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you directly to the Indiestitch Hub for the month's video tutorial and resources. The other side details the items in the box and gives you a spoiler for next month's pattern.

First out is the fabric. I chose the Black Cotton Rayon Spandex.

I really wanted a striped option to colorblock with, like the one shown in the fabric choices image, so I grabbed this solid fabric to make another of the Oversized T-shirt pattern from March and I'll be shopping for a striped knit for this pattern.

Next are the notions to help us make our pattern this month: a spool of matching Gütermann thread and two ball-point needles for knits in the correct size for the fabric weight.

We also got a 'Color-Blocking Tips & tricks' card for this month. These cards are a mini sewing lesson and a great add-on to the boxes!

Next out is our printed pattern, the Paloma Tank Top from Sinclair Patterns. It's printed on a thicker paper than the usual tissue pattern paper, making it more durable to use (and reuse) for years to come.

Next is our 1st extra item, a Sewing Pedal Pad! "Keep your foot pedal planted right where you want it with a Sewing Pedal Pad! The non-slip grip holds it steady on hardwood, tile, laminate, or low-pile carpet, so you're not chasing it across the floor mid-seam. Perfect for keeping your rhythm, protecting your floors, and making every project easier."

Next is our 2nd extra item, a pair of Paper Scissors. "Cut with ease using these paper scissors! Designed for smooth, precise cuts, they glide effortlessly through paper for clean edges every time. Perfect for patterns, trimming, and everyday crafting tasks. A reliable essential for every sewing and crafting kit."

Next out is our 3rd extra item, a VISRIE SPF 30 Sunscreen Lip Balm, and I received the Creamy Coconut flavor. This moisturizes for 12 hours while preventing sunburned lips. Great item for the summer months when we're all outside more!

Last out is a 4th extra item, a Butterfly Needle Threader. These are coming in handy more and more as I get older and my near vision gets worse. They're also great for tired eyes and preventing strain.

That was the IndieStitch May 2026 box. We got the fabric, notions, & pattern for a very cute colorblocked (or solid) tank top for keeping cool in the summer months. You can even coordinate it with our next month's project...

SPOILERS AHEAD!

So far, we know that the June sewing pattern will be the Tavi Shorts from Greenstyle!

Introducing the Tavi Shorts- the versatile woven fabric shorts for all your summer and early fall needs. With a low or mid rise option, front and/or back pockets, and various hem lengths, these shorts are designed to fit your unique style. Choose between a 1" or 2" elastic waistband and add a touch of flare with a side "v" hem facing or keep it simple with a standard hem.

  • 2", 4", or 6" finished inseams
  • Low rise or mid rise
  • 1" or 2" elastic waistband
  • Standard straight hem or hem facing with side "V" notch
  • Optional front pockets
  • Optional back welt pockets

I like the V-notch version and this would be a great pattern to coordinate your fabric choice with your tank top from this month for a complete summer outfit.
