How To Quickly And Easily Dice An Onion #lifehackWednesday, May 28, 2014
Before I learned this trick, you don't want to know how I diced an onion. It took me forever and I did it that way for YEARS! I thought that it must be something I just never picked up; that most people probably know how to do this. Not the case. Nearly everyone I've chopped an onion in front of is surprised when I do this, and I'm happy to pass it on here.
- Peel off the dry outer layers of the onion. Slice off the tip so that it will sit flat, root-side up. Then slice it in half right through the root.
- Lay one half of the onion on the flat side with the root facing away. Slice the onion in radial lines all the way around, being careful to cut just up to the root, but not through.
- Turn the onion to the side and slice through prependicular to the cuts you just made. Voila! Easy-peasy.
If you want a finer dice, cut the radial lines closer together, and if you want a coarser chop, space the cuts out more. Happy Cooking!
