Hi, guys! Today I have a fun review for you! I recently got the chance to try out the Hamswan F60 HD Action Camera; A wifi-enabled video and still camera with a huge range of accessories, like a waterproof case and a wide range of mounts. I put it through its paces and I'll show you how it performed, but keep scrolling, because at the end of this post I'll give one reader the chance to win one for themselves! [CLOSED]
I love my Canon DSLR, but it's large and unwieldy to travel with. Every time we go on vacation or to somewhere wet, like a water park, I think of how nice it would be to have one of those tiny waterproof action cameras. I get home, unpack, and completely forget about it until the middle of the next vacation. Is this what getting old is? Forgetting everything? smh.
I was contacted and asked if I'd like to try out the F60 HD Action Camera from Hanswan. I was curious to see how it would perform, so here we are!
I do have to say that when I received the package at my doorstep, I was worried. It seems that somewhere during the delivery it got damaged and two corners of the outer carton were completely pushed in. I hesitantly opened the package and inside, the actual camera box was well cushioned and didn't get damaged at all.
The camera box is a very thick and sturdy "gift"-type box.
You lift the lid and inside are individually packed boxes for the camera and accessories.
Inside of the inner camera box, the camera itself was packaged in foam.
The actual camera itself is very small and light. I could definitely travel with this in a pocket or bag. The power button is on the front while the shutter button is on top.
To the right of the camera is the SD card slot, the microphone, a Micro-USB port, and a Micro HDMI output port.
It came with a huge package of accessories: various mounts and clips, straps, adhesive strips, power cord, extra battery, and a cleaning cloth.
The various accessories are listed in the User Manual as follows:
- waterproof case
- fixed base
- protective door (not waterproof) (looks like a replacement door for the waterproof housing?)
- fixed base
- bandages (velcro and buckle straps)
- back clamp
- back clamp (with clip)
- adhesive mounts
- 3M adhesive tapes (replacements for mounts)
- battery
- bicycle stand (clamps down on a round bar)
- base
- adapter
- ribbons (zip ties)
- data line (transfer + charging cord)
- wire rope
- switch support 1
- switch support 2
- switch support 3
- cleaning cloth
There wasn't information on how to use the various accessories, but fiddling around with them, they're fairly easy to figure out. The two pieces labeled "back clamp" can actually clip together for a clip-on mount when the camera is not in the waterproof housing.
The various other mounts clip or screw onto either the waterproof housing or the main body of the "back clamp" via the adapter piece to give you a huge array of mounting options. You can even use one of the adhesive mounts to mount this to the dash of your car (or anywhere you please.) It is shown below with the "bicycle stand", which is a rubber-cushioned clamp for a round bar or object. I'm sure if there's a need, you can find a way with this bag of mounting tricks.
You will need to purchase a Micro SD card, and the camera is expandable up to 32GB.
I was very happy to see that it comes with an extra battery pack since this is something I always buy for my cameras. You don't want to have to stop shooting to charge your battery!
The camera features a 2" screen on the back, which is a "must" for me.
You cycle through the camera's functions with the front Power button. When you turn the camera on it is in video mode automatically. One additional click gets you in still photo mode. Another click takes you to review mode to scroll through your photos and a last click takes you to the menu. You scroll up and down through the 6-page menu with the audio keys and select using the shutter button.
The menu has the following settings:
- resolution
- TV out
- OSD mode
- Time-lapse record
- capture mode
- cyclic record
- HDR
- motion detection
- audio
- date stamping
- image size
- quality
- sharpness
- white balance
- color
- ISO
- exposure
- anti-shaking
- language
- date/time
- auto power off
- beep sound
- TV mode
- screensavers
- frequency
- rotate
- car mode
- WIFI SSID
- WIFI password
- license no set
- delete
- format
- default setting
- version
One complaint I have with this menu is the method of having to scroll through six pages of settings click-by-click to find the one you want. It takes a bit of time with so many settings. I'd love to see this with a touch screen or some other method of skipping through pages more quickly.
Now for the specs!
These are from the Amazon listing:
- The HAMSWAN action camera utilizes ultra 170 wide angle glass lens for scenery shots and close-range selfies and delivers an immersive perspective for all your footages in the 2 inch HD display
- The attached housing is waterproof to 98ft (30m) for various underwater sports, alongside the protective case to protect the camera in wet, dirty or sandy environments. You can take it anywhere to capture life as it happens
- Built-in WiFi module enables you to connect to the HAMSWAN App, offering full control of all functions and settings, easy shot preview and playback of camera on your phone and other devices
- Unique functions of anti-shake and motion detection make it to be a drive recorder, helps you fix it in car to capture gorgeous, professional quality 1080p30, 720p60, 720p30 and 12MP photos or videos when driving
- The loop recording features to effectively manage storage for constant recording and TWO detachable 1050mAh high capacity battery for easy replacement
I thought you might want to see if the waterproof housing is really waterproof so I did a test video for you! The quality was fantastic, but I had to turn down the resolution in order to upload it here.
If you've been coveting a GoPro but find it a bit pricey, this is a great alternative. It's normally priced at $119.99, but right now it is on sale for $64.99 with free shipping on Amazon. ON TOP OF THAT, I have a coupon code for an additional 15% off!! Use the promo code 740001OF when you check out to get that extra discount.
