If you have a dog, most likely you have had times when you just want to go but have to stop and pack for your pup's needs. It's like having another child sometimes! Whether it's to the vet for a checkup or to the park for some playtime, if you and your dog are frequently on-the-go, I had a great idea for a handy-dandy dog essentials car organizer and I want to share it with you. I'll show you what to pack and how we stay ready to go with our fur-baby!
Hermione Grrrainger (yes, we loved the Harry Potter movies!) was our family's first ever pet. When I was pregnant with my daughter, my hormones and I decided that we needed a furry companion and I knew the first place I wanted to look. I took a trip down to the city pound, hoping to rescue an animal that needed a home and would otherwise be put to sleep.
Although I wished I could take home every dog and cat there, I had to choose one and as soon as I saw those big, brown eyes, I knew she was the dog for us. Over the last 10 years she's been a big part of our family, growing up alongside my children and becoming our family's fierce protector.
She loves car rides and long days at the park, and that takes a little planning. I had been packing a large tote bag whenever we went, but forgetting it was a pain. I needed something I could keep in my car so we could be ready at a moment's notice.
Ta-da! A car organizer just for your dog's essentials!
You could use a ready-made car organizer from the auto accessories section of the store, but those are usually big and bulky for holding grocery bags in place. We didn't need one that big and I made this one for about a quarter of the price and it's twice as cute!

They're perfect for traveling with because they come in an easy tear pouch and you can throw a few right in your organizer.
They can work as a meal on their own or as a treat topper for your dog's dry food. There are lots of flavors to choose from and your dog is sure to love them.
When using them as a treat topping, we just replace ½ cup of her PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry food with 1 pouch. Easy-peasy and she goes crazy for it!
Now that we have our food ready to pack, let's get our organizer ready.
You'll need:
- A fabric cube or bin
- self-stick velcro strips
- fabric glue (super glue would work)
The self-stick glue that comes on the strips won't hold up to hard wear over time, so after measuring your length and cutting your strip, use a really good fabric glue, or even super glue, to adhere the velcro strips permanently to the bottom of your bin. Once it's dry, pack your bin!
Packing List:
- a stash of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition Dry food
- box of PEDIGREE® Pouches
- large bottle of water
- water bowl
- extra leash
- dog waste bags
- wet wipes
- large beach towel
- some of your pup's favorite toys
Most of the list is self-explanatory and will apply to all dogs, but for our water- (and mud-) loving dog, wet wipes for muddy paws and a towel for a dip in the lake are musts for us. An extra leash always comes in handy and you can clip it to the side of your bin for easy grabbing.
One more little touch and it's ready to go!
Pop it in your car or trunk and you'll be ready to go at any time.
Feeding your dog wet food was never so easy!
