Hi, guys! I'm back with the IndieStitch Box for July 2023! IndieStitch is a monthly box for sewing enthusiasts that provides you with everything you need to complete the month's beginner to intermediate apparel project, plus a few fun extras. Since all of the planning and shopping is done for you, it's a great way to be able to get down to the fun part! I've also got a spoiler for the August pattern and a fantastic 50% off discount code for you! Let's unbox it!

At IndieStitch, we simplify your creative journey with monthly sewing kits packed with amazing patterns, beautiful fabrics, and guided tutorials. Transform your sewing dreams into reality and proudly say, ‘Thanks, I made it!’

That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.

Subscription Options

As you can see above, there are 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans and the cost per box goes down with the longer plans. The "First Box" price shown above for the 12-month and 6-month plans includes a 30% discount, but I've got an even better discount code for you at the end of this post!

How Does It Work?

  • When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month.
  • Once subscribed, you'll receive an email around the end of the month (28th - End of Month) to choose the fabric you want to use for the next month's pattern.
  • Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
  • You can choose to sew it up on your own, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
  • Your membership will renew for the next month from the 13th - 15th.
  • The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)

There is also an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past boxes, fabrics from past boxes by the half-yard, notions, and the Mystery Pack, a limited-time mystery package of fabrics, tools, notions, threads, and sewing swag from past IndieStitch boxes for just $30!

If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.

July Pattern

The pattern we're going to be making this month is the Double Take Tank by Winter Wear!

"The Double Take Tank is a comfortable yet flattering top and is perfect for wearing alone or layering all year long.  This pattern is designed for woven fabric with no stretch.  The bust darts and shaped side seams flatter your curves in a loose silhouette.  The choice of Scoop or Racerback allows you to have a variety of looks.  This pattern can be finished with single or double-fold bias tape.  The double fold is seen from the outside, and the single is hidden on the inside which results in a slightly deeper neckline and a narrower shoulder strap."

This is such a great basic piece, I plan on sewing up multiples in different fabrics. This pattern can work for a breezy silk top under a blazer for the office or for a floral cotton racerback with jeans for the weekends.

July Fabric Choices

The fabric choices for this month are:
  1. Burgundy Rayon Challis
  2. Mint Rayon Challis
  3. Black Floral Rayon Crepe
  4. Phonographic Grids District - 100% Cotton
  5. Tiki Way Papaya - 100% Cotton
  6. Dripping Paint - 100% Cotton
  7. Coquille Damask in Coral - 100% Cotton
  8. Ad Lib Blooms - 100% Cotton Voile
  9. ModCloth - 100% Cotton Voile

The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that includes all of the pertinent information for the month including a code that you can use to download a digital version of the pattern and the instruction booklet. It gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you right to the sewing video tutorial and resources for the month.

First out is the fabric. For this pattern, I received 2 yards of the Black Floral Rayon Crepe. I think the print is beautiful and will be very versatile when dressing up or down.

I love the feel of a crepe weave. It's hard to describe if you've never felt it, but it lends a certain weightiness to a lighter-weight material. Rayon is usually very light and floaty but a crepe weave gives it more depth and a heavier drape while still remaining lightweight and breathable.

Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. There is a spool of matching Gütermann thread and two of the correct machine needles for our fabric type and weight.

Next out is our printed pattern, the Double Take Tank by Winter Wear. It's printed on a sturdy paper that will last you through a lifetime of uses. You can cut out your size directly or trace just the pieces you'll need in the size you need them. I like to do this so I can conserve all of the other sizes when I sew for friends and family.

Next out is our first extra, a Sewing Machine Seam Guide. I had to Google this to figure out what it's for, lol, but once I saw how to use it and how to pair it with our next box extra, it's pretty cool!

"The Sewing Machine Seam Guide helps you set your sewing machine needle for your desired seam size. Easily align your sewing machine's needle by placing the guide under the machine's foot with the ruler's side edge along the right edge of the foot. Then simply adjust your needle so that when it's lowered, it goes through the hole for the seam size you want. The seam guide's mitered end is perfectly handy for piecing binding strips."

Still confused? Check out this Instagram Reel.

Next out is our 2nd extra, a Magnetic Seam Guide. This is another little tool I couldn't figure out the use for.

"Just place the Universal magnetic seam guide as far from the needle as you want your line of stitching and it will guide the fabric through, perfectly straight, as you sew. A super-strong magnet keeps the seam guide in place for easy use and accurate stitches. The Universal magnetic seam guide is universal, it works on any metal sewing machine."

How does it work? Here is a video. Here is how to use them both together in another video. Perfectly straight, perfectly accurate lines!

Last out is our 3rd extra, an adorable Sewing Machine Pin! How stinkin' cute is this?!

That was the IndieStitch July 2023 box! I absolutely love that they include everything you might need to just get down to sewing, including the correct fabric type, thread, and needles for your machine. We also get a cool, indie pattern. This box is a treasure for home sewists!

All of the projects offered in the boxes are for a "confident beginner" so even if you're fairly new to sewing, you can complete these projects.

IndieStitch does a step-by-step Sew Along for each pattern that is uploaded to the Membership Hub every month. In addition to that, the Facebook group sew-along is another way to learn and share and ask questions; It's a lovely little community!

Even if you're a beginning beginner, these kits are 100% doable.

🛑 SPOILERS AHEAD! 🛑

So far we know that August's pattern will be the Poppy Peplum, Mini, & Dress by Made For Mermaids

"Poppy is a beautiful knit pattern full of options. The front bodice has a faux placket with a fitted chest and a semi-fitted waist. The neckline is hemmed and includes both a regular or low option. The 1/2 circle skirt is both quick and flattering. Choose from 5 skirt options: peplum, mini, mini with tier, dress, or a dress with tier. Plus you can add optional inseam pockets. Perfect for year-round wear with 6 sleeves: sleeveless, short, half, long, a short flutter, or long flutter. The sleeveless option is finished with knit bands. Poppy will be your new go-to for spring events, holidays, or everyday wear."

I love a versatile pattern and this one has so many possibilities!

If you'd like to subscribe to IndieStitch Monthly Sewing Kits, you can get 30% off your first box on the 6- or 12-month plans, but the absolutely lovely owner offered something even better for my readers!
