I received a complimentary box from IndieStitch in order to facilitate an unboxing post. All opinions are my own. This post may contain some affiliate links.

Hi, y'all, I'm back with the IndieStitch Box for September 2023! IndieStitch is a monthly box for sewing enthusiasts that provides you with everything you need to complete the month's beginner to intermediate apparel project, plus a few fun extras. Since all of the planning and shopping is done for you, it's a great way to be able to get down to the fun part! I've also got a spoiler for the October pattern and a fantastic 50% discount code for you! Let's unbox it!

At IndieStitch, we simplify your creative journey with monthly sewing kits packed with amazing patterns, beautiful fabrics, and guided tutorials. Transform your sewing dreams into reality and proudly say, ‘Thanks, I made it!’

That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.

Subscription Options

As you can see above, there are 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans and the cost per box goes down with the longer plans. The "First Box" price shown above for the 12-month and 6-month plans includes a 30% discount, but I've got an even better discount code for you at the end of this post!

How Does It Work?

  • When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month.
  • Once subscribed, you'll receive an email around the end of the month (28th - End of Month) to choose the fabric you want to use for the next month's pattern.
  • Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
  • You can choose to sew it up on your own, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
  • Your membership will renew for the next month from the 13th - 15th.
  • The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)

There is also an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past boxes, fabrics from past boxes by the half-yard, notions, and the Mystery Pack, a limited-time mystery package of fabrics, tools, notions, threads, and sewing swag from past IndieStitch boxes for just $30!

If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.

September Pattern

The pattern we're going to be making this month is the Juneau Button-Up Shirt by Styla Patterns!

- sizes 0-32 (US sizes)
- button-up shirt
- designed for woven fabrics
- dolman style
- collar
- front button placket
- optional chest pocket
- sleeve options: short or long cuff sleeve
- curved hem

This is a cute button-up shirt that can be pretty versatile. You can make this with long or short sleeves and with a curved hem worn straight or tied.

It can be made with a variety of fabrics for a breezy summer-weight shirt, a polished top for the office, or a cozy flannel for the Fall.

September Fabric Choices

The fabric choices for this month are:
  1. Black - Rayon Challis - 100% Rayon
  2. Navy Starburst - Wool Dobby - 100% Polyester
  3. Brushed Peach - Heavyweight Shirting - 100% Cotton
  4. Mint Animal Print - Rayon Crepe - 100% Rayon
  5. Orange Geo Print - Wool Dobby - 100% Polyester
  6. Brown/Yellow Flannel - 100% Cotton
  7. Red Floral - Rayon Crepe - 100% Rayon
  8. Navy Plaid - Seersucker Shirting - 100% Cotton
  9. Purple - Rayon Challis - 100% Rayon

The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that includes all of the pertinent information for the month including a code that you can use to download a digital version of the pattern and the instruction booklet. It gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you right to the sewing video tutorial and resources for the month.

First out is the fabric. For this pattern, I received a length of the Black Rayon Challis.

This is a soft, mid-weight challis that is drapey but still opaque.

Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. There is a spool of matching Gütermann thread and two of the correct machine needles for our fabric type and weight.

We also received a length of sew-in interfacing and matching buttons.

Next out is our printed pattern, the Juneau Button-Up Shirt by Styla Patterns. It's printed on a thick paper that you'll be able to use again and again.

Next out is our first extra, a set of Air/Water Erasable Fabric Markers. I love these and it's always nice to have extras. I use the air-erasable marker for something I'm sewing up quickly or a project that can't be washed afterward, like hand embroidery. The water-erasable pen will fade away with just a dab of water or steam from an iron.

Last out is our 2nd extra, a very cool Sewing Project Planner pad!

I can't tell you how many times over the years I've pulled out a pattern that I've sewn before but can't remember if I liked the fit, or come across a fabric and can't remember what I bought it for. I love this so much!

That was the IndieStitch September 2023 box! I really love this pattern and can't wait to make it. I can see cranking a bunch of these out in various fabrics for different occasions.

I absolutely love that they include everything you might need to just get down to sewing, including the correct fabric type, thread, and needles for your machine. We also get a cool, indie pattern. This box is a treasure for home sewists!

All of the projects offered in the boxes are for a "confident beginner" so even if you're fairly new to sewing, you can complete these projects.

IndieStitch does a step-by-step Sew Along for each pattern that is uploaded to the Membership Hub every month. In addition to that, the Facebook group sew-along is another way to learn and share and ask questions; It's a lovely little community!

Even if you're a beginning beginner, these kits are 100% doable.

🛑 SPOILERS AHEAD! 🛑

This is so cuuuute!!! My daughter is definitely going to want me to make her a cropped hoodie.
