Hi, guys! I'm here with an unboxing of the IndieStitch Box for October 2023! IndieStitch is a monthly box for sewing enthusiasts that provides you with everything you need to complete the month's beginner to intermediate apparel project, plus a few fun extras. Since all of the planning and shopping is done for you, it's a great way to be able to get down to the fun part! I've also got a spoiler for the November pattern and a fantastic 50% discount code for you! Let's unbox it!

At IndieStitch, we simplify your creative journey with monthly sewing kits packed with amazing patterns, beautiful fabrics, and guided tutorials. Transform your sewing dreams into reality and proudly say, ‘Thanks, I made it!’

That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.

Subscription Options

As you can see above, there are 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans and the cost per box goes down with the longer plans. There's a 31% discount for October, but my code (SOUTHERNMOM50) will save you 50%!!!

How Does It Work?

  • When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month.
  • Once subscribed, you'll receive an email around the end of the month (28th - End of Month) to choose the fabric you want to use for the next month's pattern.
  • Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
  • You can choose to sew it up on your own, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
  • Your membership will renew for the next month from the 13th - 15th.
  • The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)

There is also an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past boxes, fabrics from past boxes by the half-yard, notions, and the Mystery Pack, a limited-time mystery package of fabrics, tools, notions, threads, and sewing swag from past IndieStitch boxes for just $30!

If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.

October 2023 Pattern

The pattern we're going to be making this month is the Emma Hooded Sweatshirt by Sonia Estep Designs!

Oh Emma, this beautiful hoodie is perfect no matter the season!
• Neckband or Hood (with or without Drawstring)
• Bishop Sleeve or Straight Sleeve
• Hemmed Crop Length, Elastic Crop Length, Banded Crop Length, or Banded Standard length

This is such a cute pattern and the perfect new top for Fall.

October 2023 Fabric Choices

The fabric choices for this month are:
    1. Blue Geometric Yummy Rib Knit - 94% Polyester, 6% Spandex
    2. Pink Marble Yummy Rib Knit - 87% Polyester, 13% Spandex
    3. Black French Terry w/ Rose Gold Foil Shapes - 83% Polyester, 14.5% Rayon, 2.5% Spandex
    4. Heather Gray Brushed Waffle Knit - 89% Polyester, 9% Rayon, 2% Spandex
    5. Teal Blue Cozy Fleece - 76% Rayon, 21% Polyester, 3% Spandex

The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that includes all of the pertinent information for the month including a code that you can use to download a digital version of the pattern and instructions. It gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you to the sewing resources for the month.

First out is the fabric. For this pattern, I received a length of the Teal Blue Cozy Fleece.

I had such a hard time choosing the fabric this month because I loved all of the prints but this teal was calling my name! The color is absolutely gorgeous! It's a thinner, drapey fleece and the outside is so soft.

Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. There is a long length of waistband elastic, a spool of matching Gütermann thread, and two of the correct machine needles for our fabric type and weight.

Next out is our printed pattern, the Emma by Sonia Estep Designs. It's printed on thick paper and you'll be able to use it again and again.

Next out is our first extra, a Magnetic Wrist Pin Cushion. This magnetic pin (keeper? holder?) is on a slap bracelet. Remember those?!?! I've been in need of a new wrist pin cushion ever since my daughter decided that she really liked mine, lol.

Last out is our 2nd extra, a pair of pretty rose gold Embroidery snips! These are a little bigger and much better made than the usual heron embroidery scissors you see everywhere. These come to a very sharp point and are solidly made. Nice!

That was the IndieStitch October 2023 box! This is a great piece to stay cozy in this Fall and if I know my daughter, I won't have it long, lol!

I absolutely love that they include everything you might need to just get down to sewing, including the correct fabric type, thread, and needles for your machine. We also get a cool, indie pattern. This box is a treasure for home sewers!

All of the projects offered in the boxes are for a "confident beginner" so even if you're fairly new to sewing, you can complete these projects.

IndieStitch does a step-by-step Sew Along for each pattern that is uploaded to the Membership Hub every month. In addition to that, the Facebook group sew-along is another way to learn and share and ask questions; It's a lovely little community!

Even if you're a beginning beginner, these kits are 100% doable.

    🛑 SPOILERS AHEAD! 🛑

So far we know that November's pattern will be the Arden Pants by Helen's Closet!

The Arden Pants are everyday high-waisted pants with loads of versatility. A classic elastic-waist pant with front and back pockets. Views B and C feature a jogger-style cuff in two different widths. The elastic waistband can be topstitched with a drawstring for a more casual look. We love wearing Arden all day, every day, and we know you will too. We bet you can’t make just one pair!

I am definitely going to make some cute joggers with this one! It would be very cool if we could choose another length of the same fabric that we got for the Emma Hoodie to make a matching set with! Probably not, but how cute would that be???
