Happy Holidays, guys! I'm back with an unboxing of the IndieStitch Box for December 2023! IndieStitch is a monthly subscription box for sewing enthusiasts that provides you with everything you need to complete the month's beginner to intermediate apparel project, plus a few fun extras. Since all of the planning and shopping is done for you, it's a great way to be able to get down to the fun part! I've also got a spoiler for the January pattern and a fantastic discount code for you! Let's unbox it!

About IndieStitch

At IndieStitch, we simplify your creative journey with monthly sewing kits packed with amazing patterns, beautiful fabrics, and guided tutorials. Transform your sewing dreams into reality and proudly say, ‘Thanks, I made it!’

That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.

Subscription Options

As you can see above, there are 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans and the cost per box goes down with the longer plans. There's a 30% discount on the first box of the 6 and 12-month plans for November, but my code (SOUTHERNMOM50) will give you 50% off instead!!!

How Does It Work?

  • When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month.
  • Once subscribed, you'll receive an email around the end of the month (28th - End of Month) to choose the fabric you want to use for the next month's pattern.
  • Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
  • You can choose to sew it up on your own, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
  • Your membership will renew for the next month from the 13th - 15th.
  • The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)

There is an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past boxes, fabrics from past boxes by the half-yard, notions, and the Mystery Pack, a limited-time mystery package of fabrics, tools, notions, threads, and sewing swag from past IndieStitch boxes for just $30!

If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.

December 2023 Pattern

The pattern we're making this month is the Grab a Cuppa Cardi by Pattern Emporium!

The Grab A Cuppa Cardi is an oversized, dropped shoulder cardigan sewing pattern.

Whilst it's been designed to be worn with layers, this cardigan teams just as well over jeans/sweater or leggings/cami as it does with your favourite swimwear, denim shorts, or summer dress.

  • 3 finished lengths - cropped, hip & long (mid-thigh).
  • Cropped is tapered to the waist.
  • V-neck with wide banded opening.
  • Fabulously full sleeve, perfect for layering.
  • Easy fit cuff.
  • Wide banded hem band (not fitted).
  • Leave it open or add buttons.
  • Patch pockets.
  • Easy short-sleeve pattern hack.

I love a cardigan. They're so easy to throw over an outfit to look more put together, layer up for warmth, or cover your backside in leggings. This pattern has 3 lengths and 2 sleeve options so you can make them for all seasons. I'm excited about making this one!

December 2023 Fabric Choices

The fabric choices for this month are:

  1. Teal Blue - Brushed Fleece - 76% Rayon, 21% Polyester, 3% Spandex
  2. Burgundy - Brushed Fleece - 76% Rayon, 21% Polyester, 3% Spandex
  3. Black - Baby French Terry - 69% Rayon, 27% Polyester, 4% Spandex
  4. Chocolate Brown - Two-Tone Sweater - 50% Rayon, 28% Polyester, 22% Nylon
  5. Camel - Oversized Waffle - 64% Polyester, 34% Rayon, 2% Spandex
  6. Seafoam - Brushed Waffle -  70% Polyester, 28% Rayon, 3% Spandex
  7. Leopard Print - French Terry - 90% Polyester, 7% Rayon, 3% Spandex

There are a lot of great choices this month. I had a hard time deciding between the brushed fleece, the sweater fabric, or the waffles.

IndieStitch December 2023 Unboxing

The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that includes all of the pertinent information for the month including a code that you can use to download a digital version of the pattern and instructions. It gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you to the sewing resources for the month.

First out is the fabric. For this pattern, I received 3 yards of the Teal Blue Brushed Fleece.

You might recognize this fabric from a previous box. I got this one for the sweatshirt pattern and it was so soft and lovely that I ended up choosing it again for this cardigan. I'm a sucker for teal and this color is beautiful!

Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. We have a length interfacing and six coordinating buttons.

We also have a spool of matching Gütermann thread and two of the correct machine needles for our fabric type and weight.

Next out is our printed pattern, the Grab a Cuppa Cardi by Pattern Emporium. It's printed on thick copy shop paper so you'll be able to use it again and again.

Next out is our first extra, a box of Glass Head Pins. These will come in handy if I have to iron something with pins in.

Next out is our 2nd extra, an ergonomic seam ripper. Seam rippers, sadly, will always come in handy. Keep in mind that they will dull over time so need to be replaced periodically.

Last out is our 3rd extra, a Raisin Lip Balm. I am always using lip balms so I can stash this one right in the sewing room. :)

That was the IndieStitch December 2023 box. I really love getting these boxes every month with a fun new project and handy sewing notions, some of which are new to me. This one was a great box and I'm excited to add a new cardigan to my wardrobe!

I absolutely love that they include everything you might need to just get down to sewing, including the correct fabric type, thread, and needles for your machine. We also get a cool, indie pattern. This box is a treasure for home sewers!

All of the projects offered in the boxes are for a "confident beginner" so even if you're fairly new to sewing, you can complete these projects.

IndieStitch does a step-by-step Sew Along for each pattern that is uploaded to the Membership Hub every month. In addition to that, the Facebook group sew-along is another way to learn and share and ask questions; It's a lovely little community!

Even if you're a beginning beginner, these kits are 100% doable.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

So far we know that January's pattern will be the Flex Leggings from Sinclair Patterns!

Fitted athletic style leggings with a contoured high/medium rise waistband, no front seam, and a gusset. Come as plain leggings or color-blocked leggings (top or top/bottom colorblock) with an optional pocket. Offered in full, 7/8, and cropped (plain and top color block only) lengths. Optional back waistband slip pocket, front drawstring.

The pattern offers the following options:

  • View A - plain full-length leggings with a high/medium rise yoga waistband
  • View B - color-blocked at the top full-length leggings with a pocket and a yoga waistband
  • View C - color-blocked at the top 3/4 length leggings with a pocket and a yoga waistband
  • View B - color-blocked at the top and bottom full-length leggings with a pocket and a yoga waistband

This is a great pattern to make for those New Year's fitness resolutions. I love that it has side leg pockets and also a hidden waistband pocket. I'd love to see them follow this up with a sports bra pattern.
