I'm a big believer in the adage "When you look good, you feel good" and I know it took me a lot of years to figure out what worked (and what didn't) when it comes to beauty tips. There are a few gems that I've figured out over the years, so I thought I would share my best beauty tips for looking your best, especially when it comes to aging, and especially if you don't have time for a lot of fussy beauty tips!

I want to start this post with a disclaimer: You are beautiful. You are. You are strong. You are courageous. You are an amazing human being. Be confident in that. If you like a tip, use it. If you find that your way makes you feel better, do it that way. I am 1,000,000% of the mind that every woman is awesome just the way she is. <3

Having said that, getting all dressed up makes me feel good. Yes, I dye my grays. Yes, I wear makeup sometimes. Yes, I have fun playing with my hairstyles. That's okay, too, and I've discovered a few easy fixes for some of the most common things that made me feel less than confident about doing my makeup and my hair. Let's get started!

Makeup

When it comes to color, less is more for daytime, especially if you're in a professional environment. You can grab a "Nude" eyeshadow palette from the drugstore for less than $10 and all of the colors are appropriate for every skin tone. Use the lighter colors on your lid and a darker color in the crease and blend, blend, blend.

If you can swing a good set of makeup brushes, I would highly recommend using those instead of the brushes that come with the palette. It was a game-changer for me!

If you have trouble mastering eyeliner, you're not alone. That is the wonkiest part of my makeup routine. It took me years to be able to get my lines to match, and I still give up sometimes.

If you like defining your lashes, but hate applying eyeliner, try just doing your upper waterline (called tightlining.) Apply your eyeliner just underneath your lashes on the upper lid only. This is just about mistake-proof unless you jab yourself in the eye. ;) You'll get a defined lash line that will make your lashes look thicker, but without all the frustration.

If you wing your liner, start at the outer corner of the eye and pull the liner out towards the end of your eyebrow to make the wing first, roughly following the curve of your lower lash line. Then complete the line by bringing it back inwards towards the inner eye.

The reasoning is this: I always started at the inner corner and followed the curve of my upper lash line to the edge, then winged it out. That gave me a curve that went down, then out, which can make your eyes look droopy. When I started with the wing, it made sure that my line didn't go too far down. Making sure your eyeliner lifts your eyes can make you look more awake and take years off. THAT is the power of makeup!

Hair

Parting tips: You guys may not have noticed, but I never part my hair in the center. It's because my face is not symmetrical! If you're like me and have asymmetrical features, try a side part. A central part draws the eye straight down the face and it's human nature to look for symmetry. Fun fact.

A good place to start with a side part is to start right above the arch of your eyebrow.

Have you ever tried out an updo tutorial and you could never get it to look right on you? Try placing the hair (bun, ponytail, etc.) in a way that will follow your natural lines and it may just make that updo work for you. Follow the line of your jaw for a low 'do and the line of your cheekbone for a high 'do. It will give you a graceful line that will be perfect with your own features.

Want your hair to look thicker and more youthful? I've tried so many things for this, but the best results I've gotten are when I dye my grays with Schwarzkopf Keratin Color (#3.0 Espresso.) The result not only takes care of my grays but it also makes my hair look fuller and thicker!

Schwarzkopf Keratin Color is professional quality hair color at home that offers flattering colors while caring for the hair. It has 100% gray coverage with less hair breakage, intense colors, amazing shine, and even comes with a pre-treatment for even color results.

My hair looks and feels fabulous and I love how much thicker it looks.
