Going Camping This Summer? These 6 Beauty Essentials Are a Must

I love camping. There's just something about living for a little while outdoors that appeals to me but "roughing it" is not something I'm willing to do with my skin. I bring the absolute minimum with me when the family goes camping, but there are some things that a lady out in the wild just can't live without. These 6 beauty essentials are a must for me, especially during a hot summer.

Spring and Fall are some of the best times to go camping here in Tennessee, but while the kids are in school that's not always a possibility. Summer is the season that we travel the most and a quick camping trip is the perfect way to get outdoors and away from a busy life...and air conditioning.

Sweat is a fact of life, especially outdoors, but that doesn't mean you can't take care of yourself to make sure a few sweaty days doesn't turn into weeks of beauty regret. Just a few key products will have you feeling clean and refreshed in no time.

#1 Facial Cleansing Wipes

These little babies are a lifesaver. You can get them in a travel-sized pouch that will fit right into a cosmetics bag for about a buck. They'll help keep a little oil and dirt from turning into blackhead city. Just make sure you get hypoallergenic facial "cleansing" wipes and not wipes specifically for makeup removal as those can sometimes be oily.

#2 Baby Wipes

Grab a travel-sized pouch of baby wipes for your body. They're larger to cover a bigger area and are great for when you need to feel clean, fast. Even if your campground has a shower stall, during a hot summer you may want something handy to clean up with and as a bonus, they'll cool you off a bit, too.

#3 Facial Moisturizer with SPF & #4 Citrus Body Lotion

After all of that cleaning (I use the wipes while camping soooo often!) you have to remember to put something back and when it comes to your face and the outdoors, a little SPF doesn't hurt. I put some of my favorite facial moisturizer with a built-in SPF in a travel-sized screw-top jar and a citrus body lotion in a travel squeeze bottle. Why citrus, you ask? Mosquitoes hate it, so I make sure to slather it on!

#5 Dry Shampoo

This one is a 'maybe you care, maybe you don't' product. Have you ever found yourself doing something outdoorsy and fun and you don't much care what you look like, but then you have to enter the world of people again (i.e., hit the nearest store for supplies) looking like you've been cage-fighting racoons? Maybe it's just me, but a baby wipe and some dry shampoo can work wonders for my sense of comfort when it's time to enter civilization again.

#6 Natural Deodorant

I made the switch a while back to a natural deodorant (check out this post for tips on what to expect when making the switch.)

If you don't know, anti-perspirants contain aluminum whose job it is to clog your pores so you don't sweat. That's not very good for your body, and I switched because with my family medical history, there are certain ingredients I want to avoid. I chose Tom's of Maine because they're the #1 Natural Deodorant brand (they've been making natural products for almost 50 years!) and their deodorant provides 24-hour odor protection.

My husband wanted to make the switch because he's becoming more aware of what he puts in (and on) his body. My son was curious and wanted to try it out, too, so I grabbed Tom's of Maine® Men’s Long Lasting Wide Stick Deodorant in Mountain Spring for him to try out during my last shopping trip at Target.

Outfitting his dorm room for his first semester of college this Fall is expensive, so I look for bargains everywhere I can.

The chemicals in so many personal care products soak in through your skin and build up over the years, so even if you switch to one natural product, you're doing so much better.

All Tom’s of Maine natural personal care and oral care products are made with no artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, or preservatives. They're naturally good products to switch to when you start kicking those chemicals to the curb. Plus, they're not tested on animals either. :) Happy Camping!
