I Tried out the MicrodermMD from Trophy Skin {+ Discount Code!}
Tuesday, May 21, 2019This is a sponsored post. I received a MicrodermMD from Trophy Skin in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
So, if you haven't heard of Trophy Skin, they're the makers of a range of non-invasive skincare devices that use microdermabrasion, ultrasonic waves, and light therapy to solve your biggest skincare problems and they've been featured in the magazines Vogue, Marie Claire, & InStyle, among others.
I received the MicrodermMD, which is a home microdermabrasion system. Microdermabrasion is a procedure that buffs away dead skin cells to reveal brighter skin and can help with fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, sun damage, and age spots over time. One treatment can cost anywhere from $75 to $200 at a spa, but with this device, you can do it yourself at home. (Psst! Use code HOLLY15 for 15% off on their site!)
The kit comes beautifully packaged with a detailed user guide and a DVD to walk you through it.
I love that everything is stored inside the device. This is truly something I can place in my bathroom and when I need a filter or attachment, I won't have to wonder where I put the box; It's all right where I need it.
The device uses suction to pull the skin in gently while you run the exfoliation tip over your face. This light abrasion promotes the growth of healthy new cells and the suction increases blood flow to the epidermis which rebuilds collagen and elastin.
It comes with a diamond tip. This won't wear out like the tips that use embedded crystals that you have to keep replacing. You just clean it afterward and you're good to go. If it gets less effective over time, you can clean with an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and it will be good as new!
The system also comes with an infusion tip for your skincare products and a pore extraction tip. I was stoked about this because I had been shopping for a pore extraction device, so this is a great multi-treatment system that will save me some space in the bathroom.
It uses a filter system to protect the motor and comes with a 100 pack of filters that will last you a good, long while! They also offer refill packs of 100 filters for just $15 (look for those under the "Shop All" tab). It also includes a cleaning brush for your tips and a few extra rubber seal rings just in case.
The system works with a power adapter, so there's no need to worry about batteries, and using it is so much easier than I thought it would be.
It has 3 Treatment Modes: Auto, Sensitive & Manual. You push the Power button, then push the Mode button to choose your mode, then press Start.
Auto mode will walk you through each face area and time it, then tell you when to move on to the next area. You can also choose the sensitive mode for auto, which is recommended for beginners. Once you have the hang of it, you can use manual mode to go right to an area you want to work on and also change the suction level.
Anyone can use this device and it only takes 5 minutes for a treatment. You can also use it anywhere on your body! If you still have questions or concerns, they have a staff esthetician available via chat, email or phone to answer them and provide treatment advice. You can learn more here, plus, if you subscribe to their newsletter you'll be entered into their monthly product giveaway valued up to $300!
I have combination/dry skin. I also use anti-aging products with retinol daily and a Retin-A cream occasionally. All of that combines to make my skin look clogged and really dull, really fast. I usually use a combination of manual and chemical exfoliation, but I really needed a better manual exfoliation method. This is it!
I've done microdermabrasion before, so I knew to start slow with the sensitive skin mode, but I was up to manual mode within 4-5 treatments. It feels a little odd, but the treatments weren't painful at all and they might make your skin red for a while. It will absolutely make your skin feel like buttah, though!
After each treatment, make sure to change out your filter. Just look at that dried skin! Ugh!
Okay, for these before/after photos, I wanted to bring the real deal. I used the harshest light I could with no fill lights so that you could better see every wrinkle in harsh contrast.
It definitely buffed away all of that dull, dead skin. I can see the texture of the skin under my under eye skin is less crepey (do not use on the delicate under eye skin!!!) and I have a couple of old, white scars (one on my forehead and one on the side of my nose) that are an itty bitty bit smaller. I feel like my pores are less clogged and their size looks a little better, too. What do you think?
