Southern Mom Loves: 3 of the Hottest Nail Colors for Spring {Couture Gel Polish Review + a Tutorial!}

3 of the Hottest Nail Colors for Spring {Couture Gel Polish Review + a Tutorial!}

Monday, April 13, 2015

I received products from Couture Gel Nail Polish in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Spring is here! Not only is it time to change out your dull winter wardrobe, it's time to lighten up your polish too! I'm reviewing more Couture Gel Nail Polish (my fave gel polish) and I've chosen 3 of the hottest colors for Spring based on Pantone's Spring 2015 Fashion Color Report. I'd like to share those with you along with a tutorial on how to apply gel nail polish.

If you've been following the blog for awhile, you know how much I love Couture Gel Nail Polish

Couture Gel Nail Polish is America's #1 selling gel nail polish. They're a boutique family business out of Northern California, run by a mother/daughter team. They were the very first company to introduce gel nail polish to women in the US, they only source products that have no history of animal testing, they were the first to manufacture gel polish without harmful chemicals, and all of their polishes are made right here in the US. They have over 100 colors to choose from and their customer service is the best!

There are so many reasons to love not just their products, but the people behind the company as well. A percentage of their proceeds go to the fight against breast cancer, and they also support UNICEF and their programs to help put an end to international sex trafficking. I love supporting a company that supports other women in turn. They truly are a company that gives back.

When choosing the colors I wanted to review, I relied on the ever-prescient Pantone Fashion Color Report. You can bet that the colors featured there will be everywhere, from the runway to your favorite retailers.

First up is #84 Sweet Cheeks:

Billed as a soft, deep pink the shade of rosy cheeks, Sweet Cheeks is a creamy neutral pink that will transition perfectly from outfit to outfit. If you're not into the more daring shades, this one will see you through spring in style.

Next, #81 Tiffany's Secret:

I am absolutely in love with this color! It's a dupe of Tiffany Blue, and is such a great color for spring. This glittery blue-green goes with neutrals and pastels, or black and white.

And finally, #101 Share My Yacht?:

Share My Yacht? is a shimmery pastel blue that is almost a metallic. It's a beautiful shade to coordinate with all of your spring colors.

Now that you have all of your new, gorgeous spring shades, I thought I would walk you through gel polish application.

I always get compliments on my gel polish, but when I tell people they're gel, they think it must be complicated to apply. It really isn't, and the best part is that it's instantly dry; No waiting for your polish to harden for hours. You can literally do your nails and go on with your day without worrying about dents or chips, and it lasts for weeks.

  1. Shape your nail with clippers and/or an emery board and push your cuticles back as you would for any type of manicure.
  2. Use the nail buffer sanding block that comes in the gel nail polish kit to gently roughen the surface of your nails. You can also find these just about anywhere you get manicure supplies. Dust off your nails before the next step.
  3. Apply a thin coat of the gel Base Coat.
  4. Cure for 30 seconds under the UV curing light. You can use any UV nail lamp with these polishes, so if you have another kit, you can still use Couture gel polishes.
  5. Apply a thin coat of your color and cure for 30 seconds (you can do your whole hand at once, I'm just showing a single nail for the photos.)
  6. Apply subsequent coats until you reach the desired opacity. Cure each coat for 30 seconds. This photo shows 3 coats of Tiffany's Secret.
  7. Apply a thin coat of the gel Top Coat and cure for 30 seconds.
  8. Wipe the nail with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and you're all done! Your nails will be instantly dry and hard; There's ZERO waiting time! Yay!

Gel nail polish removal is easy too. Check out my post if you need to remove your gel nail polish:

You can find 100+ gel nail colors on the Couture Gel Nail Polish website. You can buy the polishes singly or save some $ with bundles. They sell kits in different sizes that include everything you need to do home gel manicures as well as offering everything separately. If you're into nail art, they also sell a wide variety of Konad nail stamping supplies. Cool!

Couture Gel Nail Polish is active on social media if you'd like to stop by and ask any questions, or just say "Hello!"
