Have you heard of the Piecaken? It's the dessert equivalent of the Turducken, and I've created one that's just perfect for any holiday table! This Piecaken is a Pumpkin Pecan Streusel pie baked inside of a butter cake, iced with fudge icing, and sprinkled with shaved milk chocolate and each slice is topped with a dollop of whipped cream. Yum! And since you guys know I'm the shortcut queen, I've made the recipe as easy as possible to make!

Making a Piecaken the easiest way possible means starting with a pre-made pie. I'm using Marie Callender's Pumpkin Pecan Streusel pie, and it is delicious! Just pick one up at Kroger, bake it as directed on the box, let it cool completely, and it's ready to go inside your Piecaken. No need to make a pie from scratch. Besides, we have better things to do during the holidays, like spending time with our families!

I'm also using a boxed butter cake mix. I didn't include the ingredients for the cake mix as your mix might require something different than mine. Just whip it up as directed on the box and that too is ready to go into your Piecaken.

I also used canned icing. I used one can to ice and smooth the cake, then I heated a second can to pour over it and give it a mirror finish. You can do it the way I have, or opt to ice it with just one can. Your choice!

This Piecaken also gets a dollop of whipped cream at the end. Because this one has a pumpkin pie inside, I feel like it's a requirement. What's a slice of pumpkin pie without whipped cream?!

Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Butter Fudge Piecaken

Ingredients:

  • 1 - Marie Callender's Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Pie, baked and cooled
  • 1 - butter cake mix
  • 1 - can of fudge icing
  • 1 - can of Reddi-wip® whipped cream topping
  • Optional: an additional can of icing for the mirrored icing layer
  • Optional: a bar of milk chocolate for the grated chocolate topping

Equipment:

  • 10" springform pan
  • 10" cake board, plate, or something to support your cake as you move it
  • baking sheet
  • aluminum foil
  • Optional: if you have Bake-Even Strips for your cake pans, they would come in handy, but are not required

Directions:

1. Bake the Marie Callender's Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Pie according to the package directions and allow to cool completely.

2. Pre-heat your oven to 350° F. Grease and lightly flour the springform pan.
3. Prepare your butter cake mix according to the package directions; Pour half of the cake batter into the springform pan and spread evenly.
4. Use your hand to compress the streusel into the Pumpkin Pecan pie. Flip it upside down onto your hand, remove the aluminum baking pan, and gently place it in the center of the batter in your pan, upside down.
5. Pour the remaining cake batter over the pie and spread evenly.

6. Bake on the top oven rack for 35 minutes, then remove from the oven and place on a foil-lined baking sheet. Cover the springform pan tightly with a sheet of foil. (If using bake-even strips, add the water-soaked strips to your pan now.)
7. Continue baking for another 25 minutes, then check for doneness with a toothpick. If needed, you can continue baking in 5-10 minute increments until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

8. Allow to cool for 15 minutes, then remove the springform walls and invert onto a cake board or a plate. Allow to cool completely before icing.
9. Ice your cake to get it as even and smooth as possible.

The first can of icing will help you level your cake. You can stop there or keep reading to create the drizzled, shiny surface that I created on my cake.

10. Place your cake on a cooling rack set into a baking pan, then open the second can of icing and microwave it on high for 60-90 seconds until it's a loose liquid. Stir well.
11. Pour the liquid icing all over the cake and tilt it to help it spread and run down the sides. Pop the cake in the fridge for a few minutes to cool the icing down.
12. Grate your chocolate bar and sprinkle it onto your finished cake!
