With Game Day weekends here again, it's time for some fun and delicious ideas for feeding your rowdy crowd while they watch the game. Everyone loves french fries and I had an idea for a 'Make Your Favorite' Fry Bar that was a huge success this past weekend. It's a simple enough idea and easy to pull off; Just serve all of your favorite fry toppings and don't forget the ice-cold Coca-Cola! I got all of my game day needs at Dollar General and I'll show you just how I set this up. (Plus a coupon. Score!)

Setting up a Fry Bar is simpler than it looks.

The hardest part is keeping the fries warm without a chafing dish. To solve this, I utilized my range's warming drawer while I was cooking smaller batches in the oven. Add the fries from the oven to the pan in the warming drawer and replenish the tray with warm fries frequently. If you own a chafing dish, you won't have that problem. Just remember to keep the lid off so they don't get soggy from the condensation and toss them occasionally so they get warmed evenly.

Then you'll need enough serving dishes to hold all of the toppings you'd like to serve. I got these football-shaped serving bowls 2 for $1 at Dollar General and they were perfect!

Don't forget the paper products and utensils. I got all of these in the party section of Dollar General too.

Coca-Cola is a must for game day in our house (and generally across the South.) You can't go wrong serving an ice-cold Coca-Cola!

You can get those at Dollar General too at the cool new kiosk. Cool, you say? YES. It works with the Dollar General mobile app, and when you pass the beacon-enabled kiosk, it sends a coupon to your phone! I HAD to try it out and I saved $1 off of my Coca-Cola 12 pk. (offer valid until 2/19).

When you go into a Dollar General store, open your DG app (make sure you have Bluetooth enabled) and do your shopping. When you're ready to check out, they'll scan the coupon barcode on your phone. Simple!

Game Day French Fry Bar

Serves: 8-12

Ingredients:

  • 5 lb. bag of frozen fries (crinkle cut are popular)
  • 1 lb. bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 1-15 oz. can of your favorite chili
  • 1-15 oz. can of refried beans
  • 2 c. shredded cheddar
  • 2-16 oz. containers sour cream
  • 1-ranch dip packet
  • 4-5 Tbsp. fresh chives, chopped
  • 1-12 oz. jar of sliced jalapeños
  • 1-15 oz. jar os Salsa con Queso dip
  • 1-16 oz. jar of your favorite salsa
  • 1-16 oz. tub of your favorite guacamole (or make your own!)
  • ketchup
  • mayo
  • honey mustard
  • BBQ sauce

Directions:

1. Set up your area with a large platter covered in a sheet of parchment paper to help absorb any grease (or set up your chafing dish.)

2. Fill your bowls with your toppings. For the jarred sauces that don't require mixing or heating, simply pour those in.
For the ranch dip: mix together one of the containers of sour cream with the ranch packet.
For the sour cream with chives: mix the other container of sour cream with around 3-4 Tbsp. of fresh chopped chives, leaving some to sprinkle on top.

Leave the chili, refried beans and salsa con queso for last since you'll serve these hot.

3. To keep your Coca-Cola cold during the party, place them in a large, waterproof container and fill with ice.

4. Bake (or deep fry if you prefer) the fries in small batches to give them room to crisp up in the pan. Scoop the finished fries into your serving tray if serving immediately, or into a pan in your warming drawer if not.

5. The last step is to heat up your hot toppings in the microwave and place everything out on the table, along with plates, utensils, and napkins when everyone is ready to eat.

NOTES:

I recommend using small-sized dessert plates. This will keep portions small and encourage multiple trips. That way people can try a few combinations and get full use of the fry bar.
