Southern Mom Loves: Italian Sausage Rolls

Italian Sausage Rolls

Thursday, January 23, 2020

Today's post is a fun appetizer recipe. These little rolls are stuffed with spiced Italian Sausage and brushed with garlic butter and herbs for a mini bite with a big flavor. Serve them with marinara sauce to dip and you have a hit for your next get-together! They're so easy that you'll want any excuse to make them!

When I said they were easy to make, I meant easy. Like, ridiculously easy.

The dough is refrigerated crescent roll dough! Just pop the can, roll it out, separate it into 4 squares, and smush the triangles closed.

These take a pound of ground Italian sausage and you can use mild or hot. It's as easy as using a knife to cut a slice of the sausage right out of the package, placing it at the end of the dough, rolling, and cutting off slices of sausage roll.

Plop those babies on a baking pan, brush with the butter mixture and put them in the oven. In 20 minutes you have the perfect little appetizer!

Yield: 36 rolls

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz. Italian Sausage (mild or hot)
  •
3 cans of refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 4 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)
  • marinara sauce for dipping

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
2. Lay out the contents of 1 can of crescent rolls into 4 smaller rectangles. Overlap the triangles slightly and firmly press closed. Flip and press from the other side.

3. Open up the sausage package. Using a knife, cut a portion off of the short side a little wider than a pencil’s width and place it in a line at the wide end of one of the pastry squares.

4. Roll it up firmly.

5. Cut the ends of the pastry off to expose the sausage inside. Discard.

6. Cut each roll into 3 smaller rolls and place them on a parchment covered baking pan.

7. Repeat with the rest of the crescent roll cans and sausage.
8. Mix the butter and seasonings together and brush over the tops of the sausage rolls.

9. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the sausage inside is fully cooked through.

10. Serve with a marinara sauce for dipping!
