Get Smoother, More Radiant Skin With Microdermabrasion Treatments at Home

This is a sponsored post; All opinions are my own.

We all have pet peeves about our skin; Maybe it's a scar, discoloration, fine lines, or large pores. I have a few; The worst is a scar on the side of my nose from an accident when I was about 3. I don't even notice it day to day...until I see a photo of myself. Other skin headaches are my light freckles that are trying to pool together as I age. I also have large pores that I have to work at keeping clear.

If you've ever considered a professional dermabrasion treatment, you're looking at a hefty bill. The cost is around $100 for a spot treatment to $1,500 or more for a full facial treatment. I don't know about you, but that's a little out of my price range. Too bad you can't get smoother and more radiant skin at home....

Just kidding, you totally can.

There is a device on the market for use in your home. The Personal Microderm combines spinning discs and suction to brighten, smooth, and even skin tone and texture. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, and enlarged pores. After a treatment, skin care products penetrate around 20x deeper to be more effective.

The Personal Microderm is not new. It's been around since 2003. You can get it at Harrod's, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Ulta, Sephora, and the PMD website. A study conducted by world-renowned Laser Surgeon Dr. Mark Taylor showed it is equal to $10k physician grade microdermabrasion machines. You can see that study here.

I'd heard about it online and the reviews rave about it. I was recently sent the original PMD Personal Microderm to try out and I couldn't wait.

If you're curious as to what exactly comes with it, I made an unboxing video for you.

I may or may not have run it over part of my left eyebrow. It's okay, it was just a bit singed-looking, so you can imagine how powerful this device is for your skin.

I started by using the white (extra sensitive) practice disc. This is a must! It feels a bit odd, and you need to get used to using it before switching to the blue (sensitive) discs. You should only use it every 6-7 days to give your skin time to heal and build up collagen and elastin, which is the point of the treatments.

The discs sit just below the edge of the cap. The vacuum suction pulls the skin up to the disc, pulling the blood to the surface for increased flow and circulation to your skin. This suction triggers the body into building collagen and elastin, which firms the skin.

The spinning disc (with aluminum oxide crystals) then exfoliates the dead cells on the surface of the skin. By removing this barrier you stimulate and renew cell growth so your beauty products get absorbed completely, which makes them much more effective. I did 2 treatments with the blue discs of my entire face and here's what I found.

It didn't hurt at all, but it did leave my skin a bit sensitive-feeling. It didn't sting per se, but I knew if I smacked my skin it would. I used the treatment before bed and that feeling was gone by morning.

My skin was incredibly soft. I didn't notice any visual results after the first treatment, but I could feel them. I did have a few itty-bitty blemishes come to the surface, but having done deep exfoliation treatments before, I knew this was a good sign. It was getting down deep. I then waited 7 days for the next treatment.

The second treatment with the blue discs was easier, and I didn't even hit my eyebrows this time. ;) I didn't get the abraded skin feeling that I got with the first treatment, but I did get the super-soft skin again.

I noticed the appearance of my scar was a little smoother, although I didn't see a drastic effect in the "after" photos. I did take "before" photos, so once I get a few more treatments in, I'll update this post.

This is so addictive, you guys! I love the feeling of my skin after using it, and I can't wait to see how minimal I can get my scar.

I've lived with this gnarly-looking, hardened scar for 33 years and I thought I'd have it for the rest of my life. It's the first thing I see in photos of myself, and it makes me cringe. I just wish I had known about the Personal Microderm a long time ago. I could never afford professional treatments, so I am psyched about using it. I'm looking forward to feeling okay about my scar for the first time ever.

I'm also looking forward to minimizing my skin discolorations and my pores. I'm not sure if they're age spots or sun damage, but it looks like some of my freckles are widening and joining. They look like splotches that make my face look dirty. I've always had large pores, so I'd love to see some results there too.
I'll keep you posted!
