About IndieStitch
At IndieStitch, we simplify your creative journey with monthly sewing kits packed with amazing patterns, beautiful fabrics, and guided tutorials. Transform your sewing dreams into reality and proudly say, ‘Thanks, I made it!’
That’s what makes IndieStitch so special. When you open up your box, you’ll have exactly what you need to get back to sewing for you.
It's also a fantastic box for sewing beginners who want to jump into making their own clothing. All of the projects offered in the boxes are for a "confident beginner" so even if you're fairly new to sewing, you can complete these projects.
IndieStitch does a step-by-step Sew Along for each pattern that is uploaded to the Membership Hub every month. In addition to that, the Facebook group sew-along is another way to learn and share and ask questions; It's a lovely little community!
Even if you're a beginning beginner, these kits are 100% doable.
NEW Subscription Options! Again!
We had a plan change last month to the plan lengths to 9, 6, and 1 month but this month we're back to 12, 6, and 1 month plans. The new option to pre-pay for the plans is still in effect, so get that extra discount if you can!
In addition to the previous month-to-month payments on the 12-month, 6-month, and 1-month plans, there is now an option to pre-pay for an extra discount! Plus, you can use the code SOUTHERNMOM50 to get 50% off your first box on the 6 and 12-month plans! That's a HUGE savings!
How Does It Work?
- When you sign up for IndieStitch, you'll provide your size range for the printed pattern that comes in your box every month.
- Once subscribed, you'll receive an email around the end of the month (28th - End of Month) to choose the fabric for the next month's pattern.
- Your box ships out around the 4th of each month.
- You can choose to sew it up on your own using the pattern instructions, use the video tutorials provided in the IndieStitch Membership Hub, and/or join the Sew Along that happens in the IndieStitch Facebook group starting on the Monday around the 14th.
- Your membership will renew for the next month between the 13th - 15th.
- The next month's pattern is revealed on the Second Week of the Month on all social media channels (or here on my blog 😉.)
There is an IndieStitch shop where you can buy some of the past boxes, fabrics from past boxes by the half-yard, notions, and the Mystery Pack, a limited-time mystery package of fabrics, tools, notions, threads, and sewing swag from past IndieStitch boxes for just $30!
If you'd like to see some of their past boxes, check out all of my IndieStitch unboxings here.
February 2024 Pattern
The pattern we're making this month is the Everyday Elegance Top from Patterns For Pirates!
This beginner/intermediate pattern has all the style you need in a loose, flowy, comfortable shirt! It is drafted for woven/non-stretch fabrics with a soft drape like rayon challis, crepe, chiffon, georgette, etc.
Sleeve options include short sleeves, 3/4 with button tab, and long bishop sleeve with a thicker elastic at wrist. The longer curved hem of the top length is perfect to pair with leggings, skinny jeans, or your favorite work slacks. The dress length is such an easy and cool wear for a BBQ or casual wedding! Wear it loose, or belt it (belt included in tutorial) for a more fitted look. The v neck is a continous bound binding for ease and neckline has binding options (neckline only and extended with ties) and collar. The tutorial has both quick and easy methods as well as cleaner finishes that hide seams.
I'm so excited about this pattern! I'll be making the long-sleeved, belted dress version.
I made a plea in my last post to bring back the Scarlet Rayon Challis from last February's Valetta Top project for this pattern. They didn't bring back the scarlet but they did have the option of a black rayon challis that I'm so excited about!
February 2024 Fabric Choices
This month we have 7 choices!
- Coral Floral Wool Dobby - 100% Polyester - 150 gsm
- Blush Floral Wool Dobby - 100% Polyester - 150 gsm
- Black Rayon Challis - 100% Rayon - 120 gsm
- Blue Poly Cey Airflow Jacquard - 100% Polyester - 170 gsm
- Salmon Poly Cey Airflow Jacquard - 100% Polyester - 170 gms
- Geometric (Tuner Tumble Viola in Voile) - 100% Cotton - 64 gsm (Art Gallery Brand)
- Triangle Tokens Metallic (Voile)- 100% Cotton - 64 gsm (Art Gallery Brand)
There are a couple of drapey options with the Jacquards and the Challis, some lightweight wools for a warmer option, and a couple of fun lightweight cotton Voile prints. How cute would that mint green be in this pattern??? It also has a metallic touch with the gold triangles. Such a hard choice this month!!!
IndieStitch February 2024 Unboxing
The IndieStitch Box comes with a card on top that includes all of the pertinent information for the month including a code that you can use to download a digital version of the pattern and instructions. It gives you the current month's Sew Along dates and a QR code that takes you to the sewing resources for the month.
I try to get the natural fabric option, which I appreciate that they offer to us. The choice was hard this month! I had been hoping we got a Challis option for this dress as I LOVED it for the Valetta top last February so I jumped on this choice!
When we choose, we put in a 2nd option in case our 1st option gets sold out and I put in the Mint Metallic Triangles Voile. I would have been ecstatic with whichever one showed up. We had some fabulous options!
Next out are the notions to help us make our pattern this month. We have a spool of matching Gütermann thread, two machine needles for woven fabrics, and a length of 1" elastic for the wrists of the long bishop-sleeve option.
Next out is our printed pattern, the Everyday Elegance Top from Patterns For Pirates. It's printed on thick copy shop paper so you'll be able to use it again and again without tearing it to shreds like sometimes happens with commercial tissue paper patterns.
Next out is our first extra, a box of Tailor's Chalk in 4 colors. When I started my sewing journey I used the water-soluble and disappearing ink pens. They're okay but there's nothing like Tailor's Chalk to up your sewing game!
Last out is our 2nd extra, a 45mm Rotary Cutter! This one is very nice and is much safer than the one I have. You have to squeeze the handle to lower the blade and it even has a button to lock the blade in place. Nice!
That was the IndieStitch February 2024 box. I really love getting these boxes every month with a cool new clothing project and handy sewing notions, straight to my door. It's always a fun surprise to see what the extras are and they're always good. I can't wait to sew this dress up!!!
I absolutely love that they include everything you might need to just get down to sewing, including the correct fabric type, thread, and needles for your machine. We also get a cool, indie pattern. This box is a treasure for home sewists!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
So far we know that March's pattern will be the Barbara Dress from Annie et ses coutures!
Dress with even sleeves and neckline with a point at the front.
- Pleated waistband at sides
- Semi-flared fullness
- Pointed front neckline
- Recommended fabrics: Stretch fabrics such as cotton jersey, bamboo, rayon, polyester. Not suitable for woven fabrics.
- Instructions: English and French
I try to include the line drawings with the pattern spoiler but I couldn't get them for this one. This is a knee-length, sleeveless knit dress with a pleated waistband. The variations in this pattern are in the color combinations. I really like the snake print with the black waistband. It would look very cute with a cheetah print or make a cute dress for July 4th with a white top, blue skirt, and red waistband.
