This week's recipe is a sweet, sweet treat! If you've been craving chocolate, these Quadruple Chocolate Cake Donuts are easy to make and will satisfy that craving. These moist chocolate cake donuts are stuffed with chocolate chips and dipped, drizzled and topped with chocolate. I've included the recipe to make the donuts from scratch or you can save some time by using your favorite chocolate cake mix.

The only specialty kitchen item you will need to make donuts is a Donut Pan. They're not that expensive and if you love donuts, you should get a lot of use out of it.

Quadruple Chocolate Cake Donuts

Chocolate Cake Ingredients:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Alternative: Chocolate cake mix and 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Chocolate glaze & add-ons:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon shortening
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips, optional

Donut Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Grease a donut pan and set aside.
  3. Stir sugar with flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl.
  4. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla, and beat well.
  5. Slowly stir in boiling water until you reach a runny consistency. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  6. Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup, portion out the batter into the donut cavities.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes and allow to cool in the pan for one minute before turning out onto the rack.

Topping Directions:

  1. Combine butter, milk, corn syrup, and vanilla in medium saucepan and heat over medium heat until butter is melted.
  2. Decrease the heat to low, add the 1/4 cup of chocolate, and whisk until melted.
  3. Turn off heat, add the powdered sugar, and whisk until smooth. Place the mixture over a bowl of warm water and dip the doughnuts immediately.

  4. Sprinkle chocolate chips or chocolate sprinkles on the donuts.

  5. Melt the shortening and remaining 1/4 cup chocolate in the microwave in 30 second bursts until smooth and runny. Drizzle the chocolate over the donuts quickly and let set before serving.
