It's also been a bit crazy with my son's graduation preparations, which is kind of my fault. We're just now getting his announcements and graduation tickets mailed because of procrastination, lol. I also just recalled early this week that I never went back to the photo studio to buy his senior photos. Oops. So, I've been scrambling to make sure I've done all of the requisite mom jobs that need to get done.
He also went to his girlfriend's senior prom this week, which is kind of weird and cool. Her prom, I mean. They load all of the kids on a bus and no one knows where it will be. One year they had it in the Memphis Zoo and another year they had it at the Peabody Hotel. They could be going anywhere, but it's sure to be a cool location. The kids won't know until they get there, but they text the parents en route. They're trying to make sure that the kids can't arrange for any alcohol or shenanigans ahead of time.
My daughter has been attached at the hip to her BFF. They've been doing all-weekend sleepovers for the past couple of weeks. I think they're preparing for summer vacation, lol.
I'm prepping for her summer, too. She's got 4-H camp and she's starting piano lessons. She actually tagged along to a lesson with a friend and the teacher let her join in. At the end, the teacher said that she's a natural at it and that she picked things up in one lesson that usually take a few lessons to learn. The biggest thing is that she liked it and wants to continue.
I'm also planning for lots of movie-in-the-park nights. There are family-friendly movie nights all summer in one of our local parks and I'm so ready for it. It's a great way to spend time with the family and entertain the kids. Just pack up dinner, lay out a picnic, and watch a movie together. If the kids get bored, there are fireflies to catch and playgrounds to run around on. :)
My husband is so happy in his garden. The weather has finally turned, so he can finally take his millionty seedlings outside. I'm looking forward to fresh heirloom tomatoes all summer!
Welp, there was good news and bad news this week on the medical front.
So, I finally had my follow up appointment for the last procedure and to find out the results of the MRI of my lower back. The bad news is that the last procedure didn't work, so there's nothing else they can do for my neck besides surgery. The surgery won't actually fix anything, but they'll scrape open the nerve openings in my spine so that the nerves won't be pinched anymore. Ummm, I'll wait until I feel like I'm dying, thanks.
More bad news: I have more disk degeneration and a few bulging disks in my lower back, too. Not a surprise. I pretty much knew what they would say. They said there's nothing that can be done about it and it will just get worse over time.
Does anyone else have this problem or know anyone that does? These pain management docs are giving me no solutions and no whys. I mean, I'm 38. This is not normal. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to stave off the progression of this. I'll try just about anything right now.
The good news is that they finally prescribed something for the pain that kind of works. The usual nerve pain meds didn't do anything for me and this one is much more pricey, but I'm feeling pretty okay. It's not an opioid, so I'm not goofy, but it's actually working a bit, which is more than I expected. I'm also not feeling so run down. I don't know if that's because of the meds or that spring is finally really here and it makes me a little giddy after a long winter. :D
So giddy in fact that I did something really stupid with my back problems. I decided that my office needed new furniture and a good organizing. I found a great 40% off sale on office furniture online. On top of that, I got an extra 20% off when I signed up for their emails. On top of that, I got another 5% off for picking it up at a local store instead of using the free shipping. SCORE!
The stupid part is that I didn't realize that I would have to carry super-heavy boxes and spend hours on the floor assembling it. In my head, I thought it would be all ready to slide into my office. Nope. My son helped while he was here, but I spent Friday night assembling furniture until about 1am. My body hates me for it.
In my brain's defense, I needed new furniture. I've had the same desk since I was 18 and it wasn't made for using a laptop on, so it wasn't helping my neck problems staring downward for hours every day. I bought the chair when I graduated from college and it wasn't exactly top-of-the-line. After 13 years the padding was flat and uncomfortable, which isn't good for my back at all. It all turned out okay and my office looks fabulous. Now, it just needs some paint and new curtains...
I'm planning so many home improvement projects it's ridiculous. Our house could be amazing, but I've been tired and hurting so long that all of that went on the back burner. I don't know if I've ever said, but we live in a 100+-year-old home that was last worked on in the '80's. It needs a lot of work, but the bones are good. Is anyone interested in seeing "how to" posts for the home improvement projects that I take on? I know it's a big departure from my usual posts, but it's something that I love to do.
Well, this got way longer than I intended! I hope all of you had an amazing week!
