Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Hey, guys! Need a quick and easy breakfast idea for the holidays? I’ve got one that everyone will love and it can even be made the night before: Sausage & Egg Biscuits with Gravy Bake! You can make all of the elements from scratch, but I'll be giving you the easiest and quickest way to throw it together to feed a crowd. Keep reading for the recipe + instructions!

A breakfast of airy biscuits, savory breakfast sausage, and fluffy eggs with creamy, peppery country gravy is about as southern as it gets. It's not something you're going to want to have often if you want to fit into your clothes, but it's perfect for a holiday breakfast here and there.

I love to think up new recipes for our holiday breakfasts but I must have been craving sausage biscuits. 😆 This is a way to make it an all-in-one and not have to make plate after plate for breakfast. Just slice this bake and let everyone serve themselves with a dollop of creamy gravy. Bam. Done.

It can even be made the day before and baked in the morning. Just make sure to save making that gravy until you're just about to serve it. Everything needs to be piping hot!

Sausage & Egg Biscuits with Gravy Breakfast Bake
Serves: 6

Ingredients:
  • 1 tray of pre-baked biscuits (or frozen biscuits, baked)
  • 1 package of frozen pre-cooked sausage patties, thawed
  • 10 large eggs
  • 1 large packet of Country Gravy mix
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • (optional) red pepper flakes

Directions for making the night before:

1. If using frozen biscuits, place them in a baking dish on parchment paper with sides touching and bake as directed.

2. While the biscuits are baking, whisk 10 eggs in a large bowl and season with salt & pepper (optional: also add red pepper flakes to your preference).

3. Scramble but leave them slightly wet.

4. Cut your biscuits horizontally through the center and remove the top half. Place the bottom half on a sheet of foil.

5. Layer on pre-cooked, thawed sausage patties so they cover the biscuit base and add the eggs on top of the sausage. Place the top half of the biscuits on the eggs.

6. Seal them into a foil packet and refrigerate until ready to bake.

Directions for morning:

1. Pre-heat oven to 400°F.

2. Place the foil packet on a baking sheet or dish on top of crinkled/balled-up foil. This will help keep your biscuit bottoms from over-browning during their second bake!

3. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until hot.

4. When the biscuit bake is almost finished warming, make the gravy by whisking the appropriate amount of water into the mix. Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for 1 minute. Pour into a gravy boat.

5. Slice the bake like a pie and serve with a large helping of country gravy!
